The official narrative of this event appears false, or at least suspicious, to me.

DeBlasio make too much of a point in saying that this was a deliberate targeting and assassination of NYC police officers.

Let us think of what other possible narratives could prove to be true, such as...

maybe the shooter is a mentally ill or deranged Manchurian candidate type who was programmed to do the task in exactly the way in which it was carried out and...
maybe this "assassin" is not your regular every-day loony lone gunman but is a sane person acting in full cognizance and deliberation of his mission and
maybe this "assassin" will be prosecuted as the perpetrator of a "hate crime",
this time the target of the hate is not a "Semite" but a
brave courageous member of "the service", the New York City police force,
and maybe the adjudication of the prosecution of this "assassin" will serve as a legal precedent to establish formally in law the reality and legitimacy of a "hate crime" and do so without the encumbrance of the case involving a Semite.

Any other suggested narrative that might work better than the official one?
