American Insitute for Economic Research: New Study Highlights Alleged Accounting Error Regarding Covid Deaths

...a new study (link removed or site crashed but now available at Archive.org) published by Dr. Genevieve Briand at Johns Hopkins University notes some critical accounting errors done at the national level. The study – which is still being vetted – simply examines the raw data that should have been questioned months ago. The overall conclusion is that Covid-19, at least according to collected data, is not the killer disease that it is currently hyped up to be.

According to this graph constructed using data provided by the CDC from the last 6 years, total deaths have remained relatively constant and increases can be explained by various factors such as a larger population. The spikes in deaths in 2020 are consistent with historical trends, only topping 2018 by 11,292 deaths. There have been over 262,000 deaths attributed to Covid-19 in the United States, yet total deaths have not increased in any alarming capacity; they have only mirrored existing trends. In short, according to 6 years of data collected by the CDC, Covid-19 has not led to any significant increase in deaths...

“This suggests, according to Briand, that the COVID-19 death toll is misleading. Briand believes that deaths due to heart diseases, respiratory diseases, influenza and pneumonia may instead be recategorized as being due to COVID-19.” ...

“If [the COVID-19 death toll] was not misleading at all, what we should have observed is an increased number of heart attacks and increased COVID-19 numbers. But a decreased number of heart attacks and all the other death causes doesn’t give us a choice but to point to some misclassification,” Briand replied.”...

Furthermore, Briand’s research notes that the percentage of death has remained relatively constant through all age groups. Covid death statistics seem to mirror the normal distribution of death amongst age groups, further lending credence to the argument that many Covid deaths are recategorized deaths...

“All of this points to no evidence that COVID-19 created any excess deaths. Total death numbers are not above normal death numbers. We found no evidence to the contrary,” Briand concluded...

What Do We Do With This Information?

Briand and likely many others suppose that the extreme emphasis on Covid-19 has led to the unintended classification of the disease as the cause of death. She further stresses that although this data challenges the idea that Covid is an unprecedented and lethal disease, we should still be concerned with mitigating death in general.

However, it is clear that this significant accounting error regarding Covid deaths, if true, is not productive. It has caused mass hysteria and misinformed public policy. Closing down communities to fight a virus that according to the data, has had no significant contribution to total deaths, reduces our overall capacity to build a healthy society.

Lockdowns have resulted in severe damage to our capacity to improve the general health of society. From the catastrophic economic damage that lowers the standard of living for everyone to surgeries being deemed “unessential,” our current policies are not helping in preventing deaths in general; they are likely leading to more. Suicides and substance abuse are up, mental and physical health are down, all due to lockdowns.

The late Dr. Donald Henderson, who led the eradication of smallpox, noted in 2006 that

“Experience has shown that communities faced with epidemics or other adverse events respond best and with the least anxiety when the normal social functioning of the community is least disrupted.”

Yes, I'm writing letters to Republicans and telling them to follow Desantis on how to get out of this--I say that DeSantis broke free of Dr. Fauci's tyrannical dictates by meeting with his own medical experts, the epidemiologists of the Great Barrington Declaration, who recommend protecting the vulnerable and letting the healthy get back to living. I add that DeSantis understands that the survival rate for covid is 99.9% for most age groups, which is similar to the flu. And now I'm going to add the latest about the PCR and requiring labs to report the number of cycle amplifications.

Initially posted this and additonal comment in "Best Of" covid1984-generalist pods/tubes (#195) trying to understand the data manipulation (statistics) used, but on 'Dashboard 3' found a column of apparent raw death data by week and state that a simple sum and comparison gives pretty much the same result:

Since March, about 512,000 more Americans have died than would have in a normal year, a sign of the broad devastation wrought by the coronavirus pandemic.

An analysis of mortality data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows how the pandemic is bringing with it unusual patterns of death, even higher than the official totals of deaths that have been directly linked to the virus.

Deaths nationwide were 20 percent higher than normal from March 15, 2020, to Jan. 30, 2021. Our numbers may be an undercount since recent death statistics are still being updated...

During the period of our analysis, estimated excess deaths were 17 percent higher than the official coronavirus fatality count.

What caused the other 34% of excess deaths the CDC says was not caused by the cold and flu?

So if the CDC itself says 34% of excess deaths in 2020 were not from Covid-19, and additionally Covid-19 deaths are over counted for the many reasons already discussed in threads like these, so remove those inflated 'died with' numbers from the 66%. Remove ~40-50,000 for an average year's cold and flu deaths counted as Covid-19, remove ~20,00 for population growth each year. Could Covid-19 account for less than 50% or a minorty of the excess deaths reported in 2020?

What additional factors have caused potentially greater excess deaths in 2020 that Covid-19? The government response?

White House coronavirus adviser Andy Slavitt appeared stumped on Wednesday when asked to explain why California and Florida, which had very different methods of combating COVID-19, have similar trends when it comes to the virus.

Slavitt told MSNBC that the virus was still very unpredictable and 'a little bit beyond our explanation.'

In California, a little more than 8.5% of the population has been infected; in Florida, it's a little less.

His comments come as a new study from The New York Times shows that about 512,000 more people have died since March than would have in a normal year - or about 20 percent higher than normal.

That's even when considering deaths that fall outside of ones classified as tied to the coronavirus - meaning more people have died overall, not just from the virus..

Both states have shown similar COVID-19 trends despite dramatic policy differences.

found this over at NYU Prof Mark Crispin Miller's site (he's usually posts some good info that I don't see elsewhere). I haven't had time to listen to all of this, only listened to the guy on the death count, which we all already know about. But he does a good job presenting it with a chart--probably good info to get to those still brainwashed (people still have no clue that they changed the way deaths were counted in order to inflate the count and make it look more deadly)

Dr. Ealy’s “Comparison of Covid-19 Fatalities Based Upon Different Reporting Guidelines” is fantastic. Apparently, there have only been 20,895 deaths from Covid-19 in the US if the CDC uses terminology that it’s used for the past 17 years, prior to March 24, 2020. (about 52m into the conference)

"in fairness", I recently heard an anti #FluWorldOrderPlandemic doc (I think either Dr Madej or Tenpenny?) note that before last year, almost no one knew about #VAERS & only ~1% of 'events' were reported to that dbase. But as awareness has grown this past year, now around 7% of cases are reported there. They didn't say how this supposed 'correct' adverse event number was calculated, though!

A year earlier, during the 2019–20 flu season—basically fall and winter, peaking in December, January, and February—18 million people in the US saw a doctor for their symptoms, and 400,000 had to be hospitalized. Overall, 32,000 people died. But in the current season, cases barely crossed four digits. “There’s always vaccine season and flu season. We’re used to working in that pattern, and the pattern is gone,” says Emily Martin, an epidemiologist at the University of Michigan School of Public Health who’s part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s flu-monitoring network...

And it’s not just the flu. Case numbers for respiratory syncytial virus, which primarily affects babies and, like influenza, has a seasonal rhythm, also bottomed out. According to a paper that came out last week, the missing-in-action list also includes enterovirus D68, a likely culprit behind the polio-like kids’ disease acute flaccid myelitis. The virus and AFM come and go on a roughly every-other-year cycle, and the last round in North America was in 2018. In 2020, they, too, missed their cue.

"We saw what happened at Thanksgiving. Two weeks later, it was a disaster. We saw what happened at Christmas. Two weeks later, it was a disaster," [Dr. Lisa] Salamon said.

"We're already a disaster now, before the long weekend ... So it's going to be a lot worse after the long weekend. And I hear people saying, even patients, 'Oh, it's just my parents that are coming.' But then the parents get sick.

Relatives of individuals who died in the "early days" of the coronavirus pandemic will be able to seek amended death certificates that show COVID-19 as a contributing cause of death in order to receive reimbursement for funeral costs under a new FEMA program, according to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

"Your loved one should have COVID on their death certificate, anywhere listed either as their primary or contributing cause of death," said Ocasio-Cortez, a New York Democrat, on Monday during a news conference with Schumer. "In those early days, we know that so many people didn't know what was COVID and what wasn't.

"You can go back to the institution that issued the death certificate, the hospital, the physician, etcetera, and you can have your death certificate edited in retrospect knowing what we know now about COVID. So if your loved one's death certificate doesn't have COVID listed, you can have it put in...."

Ocasio-Cortez added that the lawmakers "are in conversations with FEMA to see what added flexibility" can be implemented around amending death certificates.

According to the current program rules on the FEMA website: "[T]he death certificate must indicate the death 'may have been caused by' or 'was likely the result of' COVID-19 or COVID-19-like symptoms. Similar phrases that indicate a high likelihood of COVID-19 are considered sufficient attribution."

The reimbursed amount maxes out at $9,000 per deceased individual and $35,500 per application.

FEMA's rules for the program specify that the death "must have occurred in the United States, including the U.S. territories, and the District of Columbia; the death certificate must indicate the death was attributed to COVID-19 and the applicant must be a U.S. citizen, non-citizen national, or a qualified non-citizen who incurred funeral expenses after Jan. 20, 2020."
