Low stomach acid--anyone know anything about this.

Without going into a long story, I just realized that I have a serious problem with low stomach acid.

Years ago, I recall reading that some people are low stomach acid and it causes digestion and other problems. So I checked it out and tried Betaine HCL. Back then needed about 1-2 with each meal. Anything more than that would cause pain (so too much).

Now, I started adding Betaine HCL to meals and I'm up to 7-8 Betaine HCL and still no pain (so maybe I need 9). I have no idea what is causing this, but am assuming that maybe this is why I have low minerals (I did a hair mineral analysis years ago, and I was low in minerals).

Just curious if anyone knows about this, or what causes it.

At the same time, I'm also having a severely dry mouth and am starting to think it might be Sjogrens (auto-immune)---I'm not about to go to a doctor because all they will do is run tons of tests and even if you get the diagnosis, all you get are pills for life. So, I'm thinking that maybe I'll have to do the auto-immune paleo diet or something.

While taking betaine also take enzymatic gold digestive enzymes .
California earth minerals is a healing clay it does wonders for your gut and blood. It is full of natural minerals. You can read about it on their web site. They also have an analysis report. 1 tsp two hours away from meals and pills.

When having digestive upset, try taking baking soda, start with 1/4 tsp and work up little at a time.

    Drink more clean water.

Go to http://lowoxalate.info/ read the whole thing..... oxalates wreak havoc on the body.

Go on a restrictive diet where you only eat a few foods, then very slowly bring foods back one at a time and see if you react to it.

Keep a journal of any thing that goes in your mouth and if you reacted to you. When you take foods out of your diet for a while the. Bring them back, your body will let you know if it’s a food you should not be eating. sometimes your body won’t react until the culprit has gone missing for a while.

    Try to keep sugar out.
Go on a Low Oxalate and histamine diet instead of a paleo diet.

Eat smaller amounts of food, not to over fill your stomach acid.
Eat from 8:00 am to 5 pm and fast from 5 01pm to 7:59 am. Your gut won’t heal if it is always digesting food. Blend your meals for a while to give your gut less work to do, but chew the blended food as it activates your digestive juices. Don’t drink liquid with dinner as it dilutes your digestive juices. Don’t eat while upset.

    My .02 cents.

In this case the ascorbic acid in the stomach can build up enough acidity to cause heartburn or a similar reaction. On the other hand, many people report no problems with acidity even when taking 20,000 mg in an hour. Thank you so much for all of your suggestions.

I'll check out the enzymatic gold enzymes and California earth minerals. I did clay many years ago (Living Clay lady who used to be a guest on Joyce Riley). I'll check out the clay you mentioned--1 tsp is totally doable.

On water, I drink Berkey and have the fluoride filters.

Thanks for all the food recommendations. I've already ruled a lot out because I'm pretty much allergic to everything (low histamine diet, and no nightshades).

My meals are not that big, which is why I'm totally shocked that 7-8 Betaine HCL is not causing me severe pain.

Thanks for the reminder about intermittent fasting--I'll give that a try. Maybe just 2 meals a day.

Thanks so much for the links and info--you have posted that excellent doctoryourself site before, but I keep forgetting about it. I'm going to bookmark it, so I remember to do some searches and reading over there.

What's really weird is that I have no GI symptoms--the only reason I stumbled onto the low stomach acid problem is that I was shedding hair (and I thought it was my thyroid), but then ran across a comment from a woman who said she was shedding hair for years and then her doctor figured out that it was low stomach acid (she had to get up to 9 Betaine HCL). So, that's why I started taking the Betaine (now I'm up to 8 without pain). My hair stopped shedding, so it could have been the the low stomach acid, but I also recently added Rosemary Essential oil to my shampoo---so not sure which worked.

I still can't figure out why my stomach acid is suddenly so low. This year, I've been doing a special diet called Root Cause Protocol by Morley Robbins, which is all about getting your magnesium up and balancing minerals (getting copper bioavailable). I'm starting to think that maybe this protocol, which works for others, somehow messed me up.
Anyway, thanks again- that's a great site. I'm going to be spending lots of time over there!

Re: Low stomach acid--anyone know anything about this.

I've had similar issues and found a basic solution.
    Eat less.

    I'm serious. Eat 1 meal a day, or 1 meal + 1 snack within a 4 hour window.

It's called OMAD (One Meal A Day).

Another thing is I do recommend seeing an allergy specialist doctor to get a food allergy test. This is one of the few times I'd recommend seeing a doctor. Have them do a prick test of common food allergens so you can do an elimination diet. This is important to fixing your GI system.

Re: Low stomach acid--anyone know anything about this.

Thanks for your thoughts on this.

Dr. Berg is great--I've followed him for a while (he recommends keto and intermittent fasting) . And I've heard about doing OMAD--lots of people seem to get benefit from it. I'll try to move in that direction- first with intermittent fasting and then maybe all the way to OMAD.

I know for sure I have histamine intolerance, which means there are tons of foods I can't eat. And I have a problem with nightshades.
I've thought about getting myself tested for other allergies, like maybe to dairy (I don't do grains/wheat). I removed dairy for a while, but then had to reintroduce it because I think I might be low on calcium. I'll look into places to get tested.

I learned about clay from the lady on Joyce Riley’s show too. I heard her about a month before I found out I had leaky gut. So I immediately started the clay. The clay is loaded with natural minerals.

I agree, get a food allergy test.
