In this video, Dr. John Bergsma explores the two genealogies in Matthew 1:1-17 and Luke 3:21-37

It is a great blessing to me to find this video today. Professor John Bergsma is one of my favorite Catholic bible scholars.
He explains how both gospel accounts of the genealogy of Jesus are correct.
All the way back to most ancient bible accounts,

the Jews always looked at genealogy in two different ways:

one way is LEGAL - the ancestry line of LAW or legal discent

    AND concurrently

the BIOLOGICAL - the ancestry line of biological discent.

I knew that I must find a way to understand that both genealogies of Jesus, Mathew 1 and Luke 3, had to be reconciled and now I have a good scholarly understanding that they both are true genealogies.

(Many Catholic scholars say that this issue relates to the Blessed Mother's true line of ancestry and that that is controversial and is only a matter of continued debate. But Dr. Bergsma has settle this for me. I knew that there must be a way to reconcile the two New Testament genealogies of Jesus in God's holy and inerrant and infallible Sacred Scriptures.)

I wish I could at least obtain an audio copy of this video and if anyone knows a way to do that, please let me know.

The gospel genealogy of Jesus given in Mathew 1 is gives the LEGAL line of ancestry of Jesus showing Joseph's LEGAL father as the LEGAL father of Jesus.

The gospel genealogy of Jesus given in Luke 3:23 gives the BIOLOGICAL line of ancestry Jesus which gives the father of the Blessed Mother as being Heli .

The Holy Virgin Mother of Jesus true biological father's name was Heli and she was known from tradition to be an only child. In Jewish LAW, the husband of a female only child shows that husband's father to be the father of that only child wife as his LEGAL father.

Jesus is the Savior of the Jews

    AND

Jesus is the Savior of all mankind.

Re: Which genealogy is correct? Matthew or Luke?

I see that YouTube has now suggested another video to me that is by a Chritian explaining that is explaining this matter in another way.

Saint Joseph descended through Solomon and Mary descended through Nathan, Solomon's brother. I believe I have this right.

Dr. Bergsma explained that Joseph was in the direct line of Kind David and being the one next in line to take the throne of David but Dr. Bergsma shows that Saint Joseph received an apparition from an "angel of the Lord" and told him "“Joseph, son of David,” he said, “do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, because what has been conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21 She will give birth to a son, and you are to name him Jesus, because he is the one who will save his people from ...

Joseph is referred to as "Son of David" and the Messiah was referred to as the Son of David, but I do not have that bible verse right now, but Dr. Bergsma gave the exact verse in his video.

Saint Joseph took the path of humility so that his foster son, Jesus could fulfill his role as King and Savior.

In this video, I explain why Jesus' family tree is different in the Gospel of Matthew and the Gospel of Luke. The main difference has to do with Matthew.

Here is another video from Saint Paul's Center, the same entity with which Dr. Bergsma is associated. I think Saint Paul Center is in or near Steubenville, Ohio, where Franciscan University is located.

    _________

I find these videos from Dr. Bergsma and Mr. Ghoto of Saint Paul Center to be very faith building and faith strengthening for my traditional Catholic faith. There is One Lord, One Faith, and One Baptism so I do not like having to use the qualifier term "traditional" but when I see what is emanating from the entities in Vatican City in Rome Italy, I know that that is not the One Lord, One Faith, and One Baptism of true Catholicism.

God had an eternal PLAN for the salvation of the world from the very beginning of Creation and Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. The ancestry of Jesus, the Messiah, was miraculously planned and preserved from the time of Creation. I feel blessed to know of this information from Catholic scholars who show how the ostensibly conflicting genealogies of Jesus as found in the gospels of Mathew and Luke are not conflicting or contradictory at all. They are miraculously arranged by God from the beginning.
