    Silver "Teabag" Purifies Water

Indian scientists from Amity University have developed a curious, portable water-purifying system.
It looks like a teabag, but instead of tea it contains silver-imbedded pebbles.
According to the developers, when placed in water, the purifier provides about 99% decontamination of microbes.
Silver teabags are expected to remain effective for up to around 120-125 uses within a six-month period and can clean nearly 1,000 liters of water. The device does not use any electricity nor other energy source.

Scientists continue finding new and innovative uses for silver.
This one could become important in areas with limited or no potable water.

Putting something into dirty water does NOT clean or purify the water. Their lack of scientific accuracy makes me doubt anything they say. There is a big difference between purification and sterilization. If you sterilize dirty water, you still have dirty (unpurified) water although nothing is living in it. Purification means removing contaminants.

It may not remove the dirt, but it may keep the water from getting you sick.

My question is how do you know when it goes bad (one of your kids dies- oops, time to replace the magic teabag)?

Where is the data. I did some testing with pond water. I set up 5 Snapple bottles with pond water- one with just tap water. In one I put 10 drops of colloidal silver. In the next I put a 90%silver dime. In the next I put a copper penny. In the last one I put nothing- to keep as a control sample.

I left them on my basement countertop with artificial light periodically hitting them.

After two months there was not much difference. They all pretty well had the pond scum sitting in them. I added some more colloidal silver to that sample.

After 18 months, the only one that seemed to knock down any amounts of life in the bottle was the copper penny!

While pond scum (biofilm) still existed in the other metals samples, it was a little inhibited. The control sample looked much healthier with a nice green algae growing throw it- faint hairs of green.

Will this tea bag "purify" the water? My bet is NOPE.

A couple years back, they were selling underwear and socks impregnated with silver colloids. Remember that?

I've still got a pair. You don't suppose I could just strain pond water through my BVD's, do you?
