The mass psychological & social effects of Ebola

An epidemic of fear and anxiety hits Americans amid Ebola outbreak

On Wednesday, Ebola took a different kind of leap — a psychological one — as concerns spiked nationally about how the threat of the virus might interfere with commerce, health and even daily routines.

    ...

Eric Williams, who’s running an independent campaign for Congress, said stores in Dallas are selling out of hand sanitizer.

“My wife and I went to look for some — we had to go to three different stores before we were able to find one bottle of sanitizer,” Williams said. “And that was at the dollar store. They had three bottles left on the shelf.”

The candidate has suggested a citywide “no-contact” policy: no handshakes, no hugs.

Officials say “everything is okay, when not everything is okay,” Williams said. “People are concerned. Are we getting the truth?”

The same type of trust in our benevolent leaders that our 401k and pensions will be there and trust that cyprus type raids were a isolated incident.

Re: The mass psychological & social effects of Ebola

How do we know that what we are seeing about ebola isn't another media hoax? Along the lines of Al Qaeda, Isis, Sandy Hook, The Boton Marathon bombing, Aurora, CO, and countless others? Does it exist anywhere but in the media? Is it real, or is it 'booga booga'? Is Thomas Duncan a crisis actor? How do any of us know any of this is real? What agenda is playing out here? How easy is it to imagine half the population or more dying of ebola? And you being one of them? That kind of 'imagining' contributes to paralysis and helplessness, and more importantly, a willingness to 'beg the government to fix it, whatever it takes'.

Step back a bit. Is it 'problem-reaction-solution'? Is there a death certificate for Thomas Duncan? Has anyone even asked? Instead of letting your imagination run away with the fear, step back and ask a few questions. Make sure this isn't a hoax.

    How do we "know" anything?

The government is doing nothing to "fix" it - that's the problem. It is a primary function of government to defend the nation, and that includes sealing the border as necessary. The border should have been sealed against invasion a long time ago, totally apart from Ebola.

The government insists - demands - we "not panic" over Ebola, and continues to do everything it can to block effective efforts at controlling it. That is evidence against your contention.

What if it isn't a hoax?

Why don't you call up the Dallas County Coroner and ask for a copy of Thomas Eric Duncan's death certificate?

Not everything is a hoax. That idea is the reverse side of the "nothing is a hoax or conspiracy" coin.
