    Observation On The Birth Certificate

One gent at a recent seminar reported he had four children. The oldest two had been born in hospital. The youngest two had been born at home. The two youngest had no birth certificate which got mama concerned so she applied for and received birth certificates for those born at home. There was a difference though. The two kids born in hospital had her as informant. The two kids born at home had dad as informant.

It was suggested that this was a result of the child being born out of the dominion of the father. In a sense the wife temporarily left the bed and board of the husband to have the child. In common law this was how a husband declared he was no longer responsible for the debt of his wife: "HAVING LEFT MY BED AND BOARD I WILL NOT LONGER BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DEBTS OF ______ FROM THIS DATE FORWARD".

I just thought this was a decent experiment to cite. If true I wonder who gets to decide whether this action is worthy of note on a birth certificate?

AFAIK I was berthed in a hospital. Being technically non compos at the time I can't be 100% certain. The certificate resulting from that event has the Father as the informant. So it might be dependent on how the information of each event was gathered and recorded.

In any event the BC records an event which, if it didn't happen, would not be of much importance to anyone. Ification is the process of being or becoming. Reification is the process of becoming AGAIN. If the whole situation with the BC is not working out for you simply chuck it or come up with another one originating from some other entity more in tune with your thoughts. The African countries are faced with this all the time. They deal with it. However it seems the 'civilized' west believes once an error is made there is no remedy. Or rather that is the way they seem to want you to believe.

The first part of anything is the most important to send you down the right path. Learn to backtrack if any error was made.
