The night has come upon us, and we have but two choices: to fear it, or to face it bravely while looking to the Light that cannot be overcome. John 8:12

Will that make it qualify as a shithole country?

Didn't we fix their water with depleted uranium a while back when we set Gaddafi free? He wanted to supply the whole continent with free water.

Fascinating discussion in that Nature article... Running out of fresh water is essentially the death of the town, death of civilization. It’s what happened to Ephesus and Olympus in Ancient Greece/Rome or the Easter Island. The thing is that the cause wasn’t really drought either, these happen at regular intervals, it was just the tipping point, instead it was overconsumption. Cape Town had been aware of the problem for the last few years, but there was no political will to rectify or even to ameliorate the situation. Still they are only discussing it from their own egocentric point of view, how will this affect the universities research. Denial is a river in Africa and it is coming to Cape Town.

or another case of wrong materialistic ideology, chasing money (greed) makes money scarce... scarcity will be soon a problem in many countries
All the money that exists cannot buy Earth, and the evidence is that we destroy our habitat as a result, thinking that we can just seize and pillage as we see fit. If crowds endorse the pursuit of wealth at their own level, they cannot prevent multinationals from doing exactly the same. The “dystopian endless growth paradigm” is going to end with a bang but will open the door to a premise endorsing that Earth is the only wealth we truly have while journeying through life.

No, this is a case of failing to take action in face of disastrous consequences. It isn’t lack of money nor water that is at issue here. It is how the municipal government failed to look at the life of their society, and focused more on having the money for other purposes.
