You mentioned Sumer in one of your posts.... Years ago studying the history of law & law givers I read about the Babylonian King Hammurabi... This king is recorded as the first king to scribe the law in stone, today we say he was the first to place the law in written form. When asked why he was placing the law in written form, history records him answering that he was "protecting his people." History however does not record what or who he was trying to protect his kingdoms people from. History is dead silent on this!

Do you not think that I have not considered that aspect of the migration of "whatever" it is? Indeed I have, and its not as cut-n-dry as some want to believe.... I wish it was! Ancient history does not support that conclusion on an empirical basis. I do however understand why many people would assume the positions they do, however the tribe is somewhat of a new phenomena which has been growing over the past 600 yrs. coalescing into what it is today for about the previous 200 yrs or so... this I do agree upon. Empire building did not happen at the same time at all. Even you allude to that when you talk about empires moving east!
The temple of Gobekli tepe dates to 12000 BC, whether or not you classify this as an 'empire' it clearly shows the craftsmanship needed to construct monumental buildings which in essence is one of the main measures of these civilisations. Then we have early Egyptian civilisation circa 4000 BC and Sumer 3500 BC, then somewhat of a gap until about 2000 BC to 1500 BC with the Mediterranean cultures (including Crete and Mycenae Greece) and Hittites and Assyrians, then another 1000 years later Hellenistic Greece and Rome and about the same time some of the early South American cultures.
