It is a secret society, it may be a natural instinct to associate things secret with evil, often it is, but I doubt always...

Absolutely, it wouldn't surprise me in the least that early Christians were influenced by the concept of "karma".
Christians must have read and mulled over and adopted many ideas that came from early "occult pagan" theologies.

A concept of karma (along with samsara and moksha) may originate in the shramana tradition of which Buddhism and Jainism are continuations. This tradition influenced the Brahmanic religion in the early Vedantic (Upanishadic) movement of the 1st millennium BC. This worldview was adopted from this religious culture by Brahmin orthodoxy, and Brahmins wrote the earliest recorded scriptures containing these ideas in the early Upanishads.

Remaining alive was probably a big incentive.

Certainly, rulers adopting christianity didn't really appreciate people running around thinking they had god inside them, better to censor scriptures, and accuse anyone with a differing view of christianity of blasphemy and have them killed. I doubt that the pagan Roman emperors would have had any problems with the christians of today... Give to Ceasar what belongs to Ceasar, Love thy Enemy, turn the other chin...

    Total Pilgrim.

The separate self (ego) is never complete in looking outside to complete. Anger, retaliation, witch burning, occult minded sacrifice the result.

naming the chord is in the same category as labeling a person a troll...
