While most Americans will vote on electronic voting machines in 2012, the public is generally unaware of how easy it is for an election to be stolen by the people who control these machines. This is the fundamental problem that has disenfranchised the American voter and has turned our elections into fiction. As Thomas Paine wrote in 1803, "where the election is a fiction, the representation is a fiction also."

The following three short video clips explain why a free people should not allow elections to be conducted using such machines. The simple and sure way to restore our democratic franchise is to return to hand-counted paper ballots which are openly counted in front of the public in each polling place. This is the absolutely essential element, the sine qua non, of open and transparent elections. This is what we must return to in every county in every state across the nation.

Two of the biggest voting machine companies, ES&S and Diebold, were set up by two brothers from Ohama, Robert and Todd Urosevich. The 2011 obituary of their mother, Helen Catherine Varda Urosevich, has been added at the end of this piece to help identify the Urosevich brothers.

TAMPA – Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign has been informed that it will start receiving Secret Service protection this week, two campaign sources and a senior Republican tell ABC News.
Secret Service protection is being given to the campaign not because of a specific threat but because of the increase in crowd sizes as the primary season has progressed over the past few weeks, according to the sources, who refused to be identified because they don’t have authority to comment on such matters publicly.
According to a federal law enforcement officials Romney’s campaign, which has long traveled with private security of its own, did request Secret Service protection. However sources tell ABC that the campaign did not make the request, but was approached about the additional security steps in the weeks following the New Hampshire primary.

Such decisions are made by the Department of Homeland Security, in consultation with congressional leadership.

Romney will become the only current Republican candidate with Secret Service protection. Herman Cain became the first candidate to receive Service protection, in November, but he ended his candidacy in December.

Who is the Mystery Telecom in the Iowa Caucus?

I have made several calls to the Republican Party of Iowa in the past few weeks asking about the name of the mystery "telecom" that was involved in the January 3 caucus. Today, I spoke with Ryan Gough, organization director of the party. Once again I asked Gough if he could tell me the name of the telecom involved in the caucus. He asked me to hold on "a second" and went to meet with his boss, I assume.

After a few minutes Gough returned and told me that they would not be releasing the name of the company that was involved in the tally. I asked him why not and he simply said that they would not provide that information - now or in the future. I then asked him if the company was Voxeo and he claimed to know nothing about Voxeo. Voxeo is the Israeli-linked telecom company that was involved in the flawed Democratic caucuses of Iowa in 2004 and 2008.

Why is the GOP of Iowa hiding the name of the company that helped transmit the data on January 3? I suspect that the mystery "telecom" was the weak link by which the data was manipulated. There is no reason that the GOP of Iowa should be able to keep the identity of the company secret. I hope there are people in Iowa or in the Ron Paul campaign who might know the identity of this mystery company and pass it along to me. I have contacted the Des Moines Register and hope they can help. Because the GOP of Iowa is a political party this information cannot be obtained through a FOIA.
