I'm fully prepared to be wrong in my assessment, AND I hope I am wrong. Are you prepared to be wrong that "it's just like the common cold"?

My thinking is that anyone who pooh-poohs this virus is relatively benign and "very much like the common cold or flu" is clinging to their cherished delusions.

The case fatality rate will tell it all. We'll see.

No man I can agree it can go both ways. I got a message from the local hospital about it being like the common cold. Kids can fight it cause it is very similar to the million variants of the common cold. From 20% to 2% is a quite a drop. What’s going on?

We’ve had a couple of people BTL take issue with us regarding the case fatality rate (CFR) of the 1918 Spanish Flu. Citing Wikipedia and the CDC we gave that rate as being between 10-20%. A couple of commenters, however, insisted the actual CFR was 2-3%, and this led us to look further.

What we found was quite interesting.


This is the pre-February 22 2020 opening paragraph of the ‘Mortality’ section on the Wiki page for the Spanish flu (https://web.archive.org/web/20200212112202/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_flu) (our emphasis):


The global mortality rate from the 1918–1919 pandemic is not known, but an estimated 10% to 20% of those who were infected died (case-fatality ratio). About a third of the world population was infected, and 3% to 6% of the entire global population of over 1800 million[51] died.[2]



This is how the same paragraph reads now (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_flu):

That’s quite a big change in a pretty short time.

What’s going on? Why is the CFR suddenly being downgraded so dramatically?

The WHO report (https://apps.who.int/iris/bitstream/handle/10665/44123/9789241547680_eng.pdf) they use as a source is not about the Spanish Flu, but simply mentions it in passing. It does indeed say 2-3% of those infected died, but gives no source for this, and also claims this represents 20-50 million people.

The trouble with that is the higher range of this estimate (50 million as 2% of total cases) gives a figure of 2.5 billion total cases. Which is higher than the entire population of the world at the time!(1.8 billion (https://www.census.gov/data/tables/time-series/demo/international-programs/historical-est-worldpop.html)).

So something is clearly amiss.

Worse still, the WHO is the only source we have found so far that claims a death toll of 20 million. Most sources, such as the CDC (https://web.archive.org/web/20200207230616/https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/12/1/05-0979_article) (and see here (https://web.archive.org/web/20200211010821/https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK22148/)), broadly agree that between 50 million and 100 million people died of the Spanish Flu (although one recent study wildly differs, see below). In order for 50-100 million deaths to be 2-3% of total cases there would have had to be 2.5 billion – 5 billion cases.

Obviously totally impossible.

Clearly there is something wrong with that newly revised figure of 2-3%. The only way to make it work is to also dramatically revise downward the number of deaths. And indeed there’s evidence of editors trying to do that on Wiki with someone citing a December 2018 study (https://academic.oup.com/aje/article/187/12/2561/5092383/7/1404/5368300?redirectedFrom=fulltext) which used a controversial (https://academic.oup.com/aje/article-abstract/188/7/1404/5368300?redirectedFrom=fulltext) “new methodology” to establish a mortality figure of just 17 million. Given that this number has previously been estimated for India alone, this is remarkable revisionism.

Now, of course, there are debates about numbers of infections versus fatalities in every case study in epidemiology. It’s not an exact science. It’s fluid. Of course, estimates will vary and errors will be made and corrected. There’s more to be said about the inherent uncertainties in these cases, and we are currently talking to a respected virologist with the intention of covering the question further in future. Maybe the previous estimates of infection and fatality were too high. Maybe there is a rational case to be made for lowering them.
But is that what we are seeing on Wiki?

We all know Wikipedia is a micro-managed propaganda organ (https://off-guardian.org/2020/03/07/wikipedia-a-disinformation-operation/), so the fact its page on the Spanish Flu began a huge uptick of edits in December 2019, rising steadily until February 2020, and that the bulk of these edits seem concerned with – subtly and overtly – downgrading the severity of the 1918 pandemic has to be of interest.

Why the sudden decision to vastly downgrade the estimated CFR for the 1918 pandemic and source to a rather obscure WHO article that doesn’t even focus on that issue? And, more importantly, why does this extreme downgrade still exist on the page even when editors are pointing out the impossibility of the figures (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Spanish_flu&offset=&limit=500&action=history)?

At least this new editorial policy by Wiki is well-timed for those looking to stoke fear, and unfortunate for those trying to bring reason to bear. It allows the media and others to cite the newly downgraded 2-3% CFR as evidence that COVID19 is as dangerous as, or more dangerous than, the Spanish Flu and will end up killing millions. That’s some nice clickbait right there.
Is it just human confusion? Maybe.

There is a report by a virologist (https://web.archive.org/web/20200211010821/https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK22148/), and cited by the CDC, that confirms the heretofore commonly accepted 500 million cases and 50-100 million deaths and adds this is a CFR of ‘over2.5%’.

Which of course it is. It’s a CFR of 10-20%, as he would be the first to recognise. And 10-20% is over 2.5%.

Maybe his slightly ambiguous wording has led people astray? Maybe people consulting his work, as many do, including the Wiki editors, have taken ‘over 2.5%’ to mean just over, or even to mean exactly2.5%? Maybe that’s all this is.

Maybe.

But at any rate, the error, whatever it is, wherever it came from, isn’t ours. We didn’t make up the 10-20% CFR of Spanish Flu. It was the standard assessment until very, very recently. It still exists, though somewhat hidden now by ambiguous wording and confusion.

I notice that we are hearing relatively little about the situation on the ground in China. Not that we could believe anything we were hearing, but now, I at least, am hearing nothing.

There is a thing called 'herd immunity' which we have probably discussed here previously. This herd immunity comes about when a certain preponderant percentage of the populace has been exposed to a pathogen and subsequently develops immunity through exposure. At this point the plague will run itself out. I wonder if this will be a hallmark of this plague also and if not, why?

Funny thing is that most commonly influensa is a Coronavirus, the cold is a Coronavirus. Chances are that all three are correct, as it seemed initially his symptoms was of the common cold that may or may not progress to a flu depending if he has been exposed to this particular Corona strain before... Meanwhile cases are exploding in the USA, number of cases jumped from 607 to 752 from late this afternoon to just now. It appears to me that cases in the USA are on track to double every 3-4 days.

WUHAN, March 10 (Xinhua) -- Wuhan, the epicenter of the novel coronavirus outbreak in central China's Hubei Province, has closed all of its 16 public facility-turned temporary hospitals as the number of COVID-19 patients continues to drop in the city.

The hospitals were converted from public venues such as exhibition centers and gymnasiums in early February in an effort to treat patients with mild symptoms and isolate the source of infections amid strained medical resources.

By the closure of the last two hospitals Tuesday, the temporary hospitals in Wuhan have received a total of more than 12,000 patients, according to local authorities.

Wuhan reported 17 new confirmed cases Monday, dropping below 20 for the first time and a significant contrast with a month ago, when 1,921 cases were reported on Feb. 9.

As always, I suggest new readers go back and acquaint themselves with all my articles on the coronavirus situation (archive here (https://blog.nomorefakenews.com/category/sars/)). I can’t possible recapitulate the full scope of details, evidence, and analysis each time I write a piece.

In today’s episode of virus fakery and population mind control, I examine the one important difference between this phony epidemic and its predecessors—West Nile, SARS, MERS, Swine Flu, Ebola, Zika.

Size matters. That’s the difference.

By which I mean, the size of the lie.

In previous incarnations of “raging outbreaks,” the people controlling the operation (CDC, WHO, etc.) were content to let their propaganda fade out after a short time. And as quickly as the false threat was invented, it began to dissolve.

This time, however, the controllers feel sufficiently emboldened to pour fuel on the fire of the lie and build it into an illusion of conflagration.

That’s the long and the short of this story.

In all other respects, the 2020 “epidemic” is identical to the previous duds: farcical announcement of an outbreak; miraculously quick and dubious “discovery” of a virus; deployment of diagnostic tests that don’t work; deceptive inflation of case numbers; ludicrous claim of global spread; where actual illness is occurring, a cover-up of the true reasons, which have nothing to do with a virus.

But since the total tonnage of fear porn propaganda is much larger this time around, mass quarantines are possible. These quarantines, for the dim and uninformed, appear to prove (but don’t) that the virus is highly volatile and dangerous.

In turn, the quarantines, and an accompanying urge for “self-isolation,” torpedo trade and industries and markets.

The world population, one more time, is tuned up to accept any and all medical dictates.

To put it another way, the current coronavirus fantasy could have been floated with the half-hearted intensity of prior epidemic duds. However, for no other reason than the desire to tighten the screws of control, the choice was made to shove more counterfeit chips across the table this time.

For that purpose, China was an ideal starting point. The government wouldn’t hesitate to lock down 100 million citizens—thus ramping up the “seriousness of the matter” from the get-go—kicking off a worldwide dither. China was the model. As I predicted, other nations would pick up the cue and feel comfortable about following suit. A deranged Italian politician has now quarantined a quarter of the country’s population.

On the bright side, the controllers are overplaying their hand. How could they not, given their front men fatuously predicting 40 to 70 percent of the world population will become “infected,” and millions will die. When that doesn’t happen, a good many people will remember those bloated projections. The boy-who-cried-wolf factor will kick in, regardless of how many social media platforms try to erase the past through censorship.

Here is an informal list of current predictions, from various sources. I suggest you keep it, in order to remember what to remind doomsayers of, when the dust clears: containment won’t work; the virus will spread unchecked all over the globe; the rate of transmission of the virus and the death rate will escalate; the virus is actually a devastating bioweapon, against which the human immune system has no defense; the virus’ genetic makeup, containing elements of the deadliest virus ever discovered, HIV, will wreak unprecedented havoc.

You can add other world-ending predictions as you find them.

Oh, there is one other difference between this phony epidemic and previous incarnations: the recent gigantic expansion of YouTube and other social media. And given the degree of censorship that now prevails on social media—particularly the lunatic prohibition against “treating tragedies as hoaxes”—billions of tidbits of epidemic fear porn have the upper hand.

It’s almost as if, once social media had their censors firmly in place, the green light, signaling “coast clear to launch the 2020 epidemic fairy tale,” flashed on.

The globalists have put this into play in my opinion and it serves many purposes for them. It is the perfect cover for the inevitable collapse of the debt bubble economy. It is a perfect reason to implement monetary changes including but not limited to the phase out of cash. It is a perfect reason to implement a tightening and lockdown on freedom of movement and many other freedoms as we are ushered into a totalitarian society. It will further the illusion of opposing camps and allow for further use of the Hegellian dialectics that are so frequently used to bring about the desired changes.

Whether the virus and it's damage is real or not, it is not real because it is being used on purpose. Whether the events unfolding are real or not, they are not real because they are being scripted, either before hand or spun as they unfold.

Fear is a very useful emotion. Take wolves and turn them into sheep.

It would seem to me at this point in time that a person would be wise and sensible to practice a marked degree of social isolation if they are in a household with vulnerable adults that would be anhilated by this virus. My wife is just getting over viral pnuemonia and her lungs are hurting. I don't want to lose her. We live alone but have many grandkids. My middle daughter has nine of her children in the home with her. My wife wants to have a dinner (early St. Paddy's Day) this weekend. I am going to put a stop to it. She is all about the grandkids, they are her life. I don't want them to be her death.

I told the middle daughter that she was welcome to come over and bring the kids but they would have to stay outside to visit and keep a distance. I felt like a real Dick saying this. The call broke up shortly after this was said and I don't know how she will feel about me now but that is immaterial. The material thing is that I do my best to keep my wife alive. The schools are a breeding ground and dissemination point for all sorts of diseases.

Another thing that has not been discussed here that I have seen is the fact that China has had a one child policy in effect since the late seventies, I think. This means that most families have just a single child. I wonder what if any effect this fact has upon the transmittability of the virus. How would this affect the Chinese community as compared to Western societies? Would not a home with multiple children be far more prone to infection? I haven't seen any discussion anywhere on this point. What do you folks think?

There is so much conflicting information. A person does not know what to believe. I agree. I have tried to put it in strategic terms to make sense of it. What has strategic value?

1) Virus overplayed as distraction, perhaps a cover for the genocide of Chinese who are considered problematic for the ruling class there (Jews of course).
2) Generating fears of viruses to help promote vaccine use in future, after Israel creates vaccine which "saves the world", or something like that.

It should be easier to figure out a year from now, when the end result reveals the original intention.

Fed to spend $1.5T to pump liquidity into financial markets amid coronavirus panic

The Federal Reserve Bank of New York announced Thursday that it will spend $1.5 trillion to purchase financial assets in a titanic bid to pump cash into the bond market amid panic on Wall Street.

The New York Fed said in a Thursday statement it will drastically increase the scale of its repurchase (repo) agreements, during which it buys Treasury bonds and other securities from banks and traders with an agreement to sell the product back with interest the following day or soon after.

It will offer $500 billion in repo operations on Thursday followed by $1 trillion in repo agreements Friday “to address highly unusual disruptions in Treasury financing markets associated with the coronavirus outbreak.”


The decision to dramatically increase the scale of Fed repo operations came “pursuant to instruction” from Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, the New York Fed said in a statement.

The Fed’s bid to refuel financial markets comes amid spiking anxiety among economists and investors about the potential economic toll of the coronavirus outbreak, which the World Health Organization formally designated a pandemic on Thursday.

Widespread school and university closures, event cancellations and pleas from public officials for social distancing have also revealed the scale of disruption and upheaval the coronavirus will cause in the U.S., raising the odds of a recession.

All three major U.S. stock indexes plunged nearly 8 percent Thursday after President Trump banned all travel from the European Union to the U.S. and lawmakers squabbled over an economic rescue plan before an impending congressional recess.

The Fed’s intervention into financial markets also represents a sudden shift in course from the central bank’s plan to reduce its debt and securities holdings from the 2008 crisis and recession.

Throughout 2018 and 2019, the Fed had begun selling off the nearly $4 trillion in assets purchased to stimulate the economy and restore credit to financial markets during the 2008 recession. The Fed ramped up purchases toward the end of 2019 after a September crunch in repo markets and steadily increased those purchases in February to keep the bond market flowing.


Banks and industry advocates have insisted throughout the coronavirus panic that they have enough capital and liquidity to keep the financial system stable. Trump met with the CEOs of most of the largest U.S. banks Wednesday and touted their strength in his Wednesday night address from the Oval Office.

"This is not a financial crisis. This is just a temporary moment of time that we will overcome together as a nation," Trump said.

"Our banks and financial institutions are fully capitalized and incredibly strong, our unemployment is at a historic low," Trump continued.

"This vast economic prosperity gives us flexibility, reserves and resources to handle any threat that comes our way."

I hit the grocery store yesterday and went to a meijer this morning.

No Sanitizer, Still had some cleaning supplies mabye 10% of normal on shelf, still had toilet paper some premium mostly generic not much though.


Meijer was a different story.
About 50-60 cars in the parking lot @ 6:30am. On a Saturnday/Sunday morning @ 6:30am there might be 5.
No vitamin C, had about 15-20 bottles of 91% ipa, no toilet paper, meat section all but wiped out, no bag potatoes or onions, paper towels about gone, pasta about 10% of normal.
The weirdest one though. Almost all of the flour was gone. Just about 10 bags of the meijer brand left.

Dr. Brian Monahan, attending physician of Congress, told a closed meeting of Senate staffers this week that 70 million to 150 million Americans — a third of the nation — could contract the coronavirus. Dr. Anthony Fauci testified that the mortality rate for COVID-19 will likely run near 1%.

Translation: Between 750,000 and 1.1 million Americans may die of this disease before it runs its course. The latter figure is equal to all the U.S. dead in World War II and on both sides in the Civil War.

Chancellor Angela Merkel warns that 70% of Germany’s population — 58 million people — could contract the coronavirus. If she is right, and Fauci’s mortality rate holds for her country, that could mean more than half a million dead Germans.

Bernie Sanders does not like “millionaires and billionaires,” he should be pleased. There are far fewer of them today than there were when he won the New Hampshire primary.

What does the future hold?

It may one day be said that the coronavirus delivered the deathblow to the New World Order, to a half-century of globalization, and to the era of interdependence of the world’s great nations.

Tourism, air travel, vacation cruises, international gatherings and festivals are already shutting down. Travel bans between countries and continents are being imposed. Conventions, concerts and sporting events are being canceled. Will the Tokyo Olympics go forward? If they do, will all the anticipated visitors from abroad come to Japan to enjoy the games?

Trump has issued a one-month travel ban on Europe.

As for the “open borders” crowd, do Democrats still believe that breaking into our country should no longer be a crime, and immigrants arriving illegally should be given free health care, a proposition to which all the Democratic debaters raised their hands?

The ideological roots of our free trade era can be traced to the mid-19th century when its great evangelist, Richard Cobden, rose at Free Trade Hall in Manchester on Jan. 15, 1846, and rhapsodized:

“I see in the Free Trade principle that which shall act on the moral world as the principle of gravitation in the universe — drawing men together, thrusting aside the antagonism of race, and creed, and language, and uniting us in the bonds of eternal peace.”

In the pre-Trump era, Republicans held hands with liberal Democrats in embracing NAFTA, GATT, the WTO and most-favored-nation trade privileges for China.

In retrospect, was it wise to have relied on China to produce essential parts for the supply chains of goods vital to our national security? Does it appear wise to have moved the production of pharmaceuticals and lifesaving drugs for heart disease, strokes and diabetes to China? Does it appear wise to have allowed China to develop a virtual monopoly on rare earth minerals crucial to the development of weapons for our defense?

In this coronavirus pandemic, people now seem to be looking for authoritative leaders and nations seem to be looking out for their own peoples first. Would Merkel, today, invite a million Syrian refugees into Germany no matter the conditions under which they were living in Syria and Turkey?

Is not the case now conclusive that we made a historic mistake when we outsourced our economic independence to rely for vital necessities upon nations that have never had America’s best interests at heart?

Which rings truer today? We are all part of mankind, all citizens of the world. Or that it’s time to put America and Americans first!

CHAMPAIGN — At a meeting Friday morning, the Champaign City Council unanimously approved an ordinance that gives the mayor and city manager certain emergency powers in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

It allows them to suspend licenses for special events and restrict public access to city buildings, which the city announced later Friday it would be doing for its police department, fire stations, public works department and the City Building.

Payment due dates may also be also be adjusted, and late fees may be waived.

“I don’t want anybody to come into the City Building because they have a bill to pay and either make any of us sick or potentially be exposed to the virus because they needed to pay a city bill,” City Manager Dorothy David said.

The ordinance also gives David more power to negotiate directly with unions if too many workers get sick and shifts need to change or be extended.

“Ordinarily, those kinds of things are negotiated in a bargaining agreement,” David said. “But in urgency, on a very practical level, I may need the authority to sit down with bargaining-unit leadership, reach a memorandum of understanding, put that in place, and then notify the city council that I’ve done it.”

And the ordinance gives the city manager more flexibility to make emergency purchases.

“I’m not talking about, we need to buy Clorox wipes to disinfect offices,” David said. “I’m talking about in the event that suddenly more N95 masks are actually available and we could procure them. We need to be able to procure them quickly.”

City attorney Fred Stavins noted that the emergency ordinance doesn’t compel any particular actions, which would need to be approved by the city council at its next meeting.

“The ordinance contemplates a wide range of emergency situations,” he said. “Whether any of these steps will be necessary, other than the cancellation of some meetings and the necessity to deal with personnel issues, including work-at-home issues, and the ability to respond to the needs of our fire and police departments, is not completely known at this time.”

The emergency ordinance also gives the mayor some more far-reaching powers, including imposing a curfew, limiting the use of water, taking possession of property, restricting the sale of firearms and closing businesses.
These have been part of the city code since at least 2006, Stavins said, and the city doesn’t plan to use them.

“These are parroting what’s in the state statutes,” Stavins said. “These powers currently exist.”

Dan Nusbaum, who owns Green Street Cafe in Champaign, said when he read the proposed ordinance Thursday evening, it “scared me a little bit.”

And Scott McIntosh, general manager of Big Grove Tavern in downtown Champaign, said the city could have better communicated its plans with the ordinance.

“A lot of folks I work with or who patronize our venue were very alarmed last night that there’s already an open discussion of seizing property and shutting off water,” he said. “Prioritizing the community communication needs to be critical for us, both as citizens and as workers who work with you, as opposed to inflame fears right out of the gate.”

David acknowledged the communication could have been improved.

“You are absolutely right,” she said. “The kind of lack of information, by leading with an action before communication, is causing probably undue concern.”

The expansive powers in the ordinance spread quickly online, with the clause allowing a restriction on firearm sales leading the lobbying arm of the National Rifle Association to issue a “National Alert.”

Later in the day, the city tried to clean up, issuing a statement that it doesn’t plan to take anyone’s guns.

“To be clear, there is currently no firearm ban and no intent to seize property or close businesses,” the city’s statement said. “Additionally, there are no restrictions on the sale of alcohol or gas or the ability to enter or leave Champaign.”

And David hopped on the WDWS NewsHour to allay those fears.

“We’ve been fielding calls all day,” she said. “The purpose of the order is to give the city the flexibility so that we can thoughtfully and responsibly continue to serve the community.”

And she said insisted the city won’t violate the Constitution.

“The First Amendment, the Second Amendment, all the rights of people are absolutely protected, and this emergency order does not give us the authority to overstep those bounds,” she said. “And things like intent to seize property — somebody today was concerned about turning off of water — those things are not going to be necessary by what is going on in this particular public health crisis as much as we can anticipate.
“That is not the purpose of this at all,” she said.

But regardless of the city’s intent, Illinois Press Association attorney Don Craven said the language of the ordinance appears to violate state law, if not the U.S. Constitution.
“By what authority does the city get to seize personal property?” he wondered.

And he said if the city doesn’t plan to use certain emergency powers, “it begs the question of why do it in the first place.”

In particular, he was concerned about the ordinance letting the city council meet online, which he said would violate the state’s Open Meetings Act.
“You need a physical quorum of the members of the public body,” he said.

David said that section was included because “if suddenly there’s an illness outbreak, and I can’t get all the city council members to attend because we have people in isolation, or it would become a threat to public health for us to convene in that way, we need to have the flexibility to establish electronic communications because the council must legally act to continue governing the city.”
But Craven said it’s still a violation of state law.

“We all agree that in order to have relief from the quorum provision of the Open Meetings Act, it would take a legislative change, and we’re working on drafting one,” Craven said.

It started in a dusty and desolate corner of Kansas, as horror stories might.

The deadly influenza virus that would be known as the mother of all outbreaks tore through Haskell County in the winter of 1918. The county doctor warned that young, sturdy hog farmers were collapsing in the fields as if they’d been shot.

Historians believe that the flu soon reached Camp Funston at Fort Riley, where troops trained to fight World War I. By spring, flu outbreaks hit most of the Army camps across the country. Thousands of troops in effect carried germ warfare in their arsenal to European shores, and the pandemic took hold.

The particular strain of influenza was most aggressive in healthy people ages 20 to 40, possibly because their strong immune systems overreacted to the invading virus. The 1918 Spanish flu got its name after King Alfonso of Spain, 32, fell ill that May.
“It was working-age adults, people who were young and healthy suddenly getting sick and dying,” said Dr. Steven Lawrence (https://infectiousdiseases.wustl.edu/faculty-staff/steven-j-lawrence/), infectious disease specialist at Washington University. “It made for a devastating pandemic.

When a second wave of flu hit the U.S. the next fall, St. Louis had the advantage of planning for disaster as East Coast cities were struck first. By late September, Jefferson Barracks went under quarantine as the first soldiers came down with the flu.
In early October, city health commissioner Dr. Max C. Starkloff ordered the closure of schools, movie theaters, saloons, sporting events and other public gathering spots. Churches were told to suspend Sunday services. At the time, with nearly 800,000 residents, St. Louis was among the top 10 largest American cities.


“In an epidemic, somebody has to have the authority to make those kinds of decisions that infringe on people’s rights,” said Pamela Walker, who was the city’s health director from 2007 to 2015. “He had been health director for long enough to know his city and how people interacted. He also had the public’s trust.”
Chris Gordon, director of library and collections at the Missouri History Museum, called Starkloff’s decision “a bold step.”
“Most places in the country did not go that far,” Gordon said.


Theater owners, as some of the largest taxpayers at the time, protested the closures. Musicians and entertainers claimed the quarantine threatened their careers. Others were delighted — anti-alcohol leagues that were forming in the runup to Prohibition went on the lookout for taverns that violated the shutdown, Gordon said.
Within two days of the quarantine, eight soldiers at Jefferson Barracks were dead, another eight residents died at St. Louis City Hospital and the number of area flu cases topped 1,150.
Jacob Meeker, a St. Louis congressman, died Oct. 16, six days after touring Jefferson Barracks. He was 40.
With the flu continuing its rampage, Starkloff imposed a stricter quarantine in November, closing down all businesses with few exceptions including banks, newspapers, embalmers and coffin makers, according to Post-Dispatch archives.
The American Red Cross shifted from making bandages to face masks. Volunteers passed around blankets and vats of broth to flu sufferers. An ambulance waited at Union Station to take any sickly train passengers directly to the hospital upon arrival. Police officers and mail carriers wore masks on their daily routes.

Israeli scientists are on the cusp of developing the first vaccine against the novel coronavirus, according to Science and Technology Minister Ofir Akunis. If all goes as planned, the vaccine could be ready within a few weeks and available in 90 days, according to a release.

“Congratulations to MIGAL [The Galilee Research Institute] on this exciting breakthrough,” Akunis said. “I am confident there will be further rapid progress, enabling us to provide a needed response to the grave global COVID-19 threat,” Akunis said, referring to the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

For the past four years, a team of MIGAL scientists has been developing a vaccine against infectious bronchitis virus (IBV), which causes a bronchial disease affecting poultry. The effectiveness of the vaccine has been proven in pre-clinical trials carried out at the Veterinary Institute.

“Our basic concept was to develop the technology and not specifically a vaccine for this kind or that kind of virus,” said Dr. Chen Katz, MIGAL’s biotechnology group leader. “The scientific framework for the vaccine is based on a new protein expression vector, which forms and secretes a chimeric soluble protein that delivers the viral antigen into mucosal tissues by self-activated endocytosis, causing the body to form antibodies against the virus.”

Endocytosis is a cellular process in which substances are brought into a cell by surrounding the material with cell membrane, forming a vesicle containing the ingested material.

In pre-clinical trials, the team demonstrated that the oral vaccination induces high levels of specific anti-IBV antibodies, Katz said.

“Let’s call it pure luck,” he said. “We decided to choose coronavirus as a model for our system just as a proof of concept for our technology.”

But after scientists sequenced the DNA of the novel coronavirus causing the current worldwide outbreak, the MIGAL researchers examined it and found that the poultry coronavirus has high genetic similarity to the human one, and that it uses the same infection mechanism, which increases the likelihood of achieving an effective human vaccine in a very short period of time, Katz said.

“All we need to do is adjust the system to the new sequence,” he said. “We are in the middle of this process, and hopefully in a few weeks we will have the vaccine in our hands. Yes, in a few weeks, if it all works, we would have a vaccine to prevent coronavirus.”

MIGAL would be responsible for developing the new vaccine, but it would then have to go through a regulatory process, including clinical trials and large-scale production, Katz said.

Akunis said he has instructed his ministry’s director-general to fast-track all approval processes with the goal of bringing the human vaccine to market as quickly as possible.

“Given the urgent global need for a human coronavirus vaccine, we are doing everything we can to accelerate development,” MIGAL CEO David Zigdon said. The vaccine could “achieve safety approval in 90 days,” he said.

It will be an oral vaccine, making it particularly accessible to the general public, Zigdon said.

Oddly, these Israelis claim they just so happened to be working on this strain of coronavirus before the outbreak happened, which gave them a ‘head start’ on the competition. What a coincidence!

They’d like you to think that poultry and human coronaviruses are so ‘similar’ that work on the former can be applied to the latter, which is not necessarily the case because how specific vaccines have to be. ‘Close enough’ doesn’t work in vaccines.

And they make it sound like they were working on some ‘generic’ template for pulmonary vaccines that could easily be modified to other ‘similar’ viruses. The reason flu shots allegedly don’t work from season to season is that each year has a new virus and they have to start all over again, and coronavirus would be the same.

Interestingly, a similar article about this vaccine appeared in the Times Of Israel (https://www.timesofisrael.com/israeli-made-oral-vaccine-for-coronavirus-on-track-but-testing-will-take-months/), but that article failed to mention the role that ‘luck’ played in the rapid development of the vaccine, but it did mention that they’d been working on this generic template for 4 years already.

Strangely, this second article doesn’t claim it they were already working on the coronavirus but rather they found the genetic sequence for it online and applied that to their ‘template’. Which one is it? Were they already working on COVID-19 or not?

Regardless, this second article also makes the astonishing claim that they may have the vaccine ready in only 90 days from now.

In order to rush this vaccine to market, it surely cannot be tested properly in such a short time, and anyone who takes it is literally taking their lives into their own hands.

Remember the devastation that the Swine Flu vaccine caused? People got so caught up in the hysteria created by the media that they were willing to take an inadequately manufactured and tested vaccine.

Recall how the first polio vaccine by Jonas Salk was rushed to market, and it actually caused polio in children so that it had to be withdrawn from the public.

And the same very well may happen this time: the normal ‘red tape’ to get this vaccine approved will be waived because of overwhelming public demand, and this new vaccine could end up killing far more people than the cornonavirus ever will.

I don’t think any of us have been through an experience like this, and we continue to be amazed at what our people, whether in the stores or in the supply chain, are doing to make sure customers have what they need.

To better support our associates and serve our customers, we will adjust our operating hours beginning Sunday, March 15. Walmart stores and Neighborhood Markets will be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. until further notice. This will help ensure associates are able to stock the products our customers are looking for and to perform cleaning and sanitizing. Stores currently operating under more reduced hours (for example they regularly close at 10 p.m. or open at 7 a.m.) will keep their current hours of operation.

As we make this change, associates will continue to work the hours and shifts they are scheduled, and our supply chain and trucking fleet will continue to move products and deliver to stores on their regular schedules. Limbaugh told listeners that “there just is a gigantic cloud of suspicion hanging over all of this, as far as I’m concerned.”

On his radio show,Hannity cited a comment from an “MIT guy on Twitter” who said that “coronavirus fear-mongering by the deep state will go down in history as one of the biggest frauds to manipulate economies, suppress dissent and push mandated medicines.”

“It may get worse before it gets better, but ultimately I am confident in the people that we have,” Hannity said.

For weeks, Hannity, Limbaugh and other talk hosts from the right have accused the media of hyping the coronavirus or using it as a means to hurt Trump. A film that describes the development of a deadly Virus weapons system by the USA Military during the height of the Cold War epoch during the early 1980's. A small group of multinational scientists stuck in the Antarctic learn to survive after a human engineered virus knocks out most of earth's population.

The film begins in East Germany where a scientist has been bribed by American agents to provide a sample of the deadly virus developed by the East German government for a reward of 50,000 pounds. Suddenly East German soldiers break into the clandestine meeting and shoot the German scientist but the CIA agents manage to escape in a plane. Unfortunately the plane crashes into the side of a mountain during a violent storm and the deadly virus, called CX114 which is contained in an air tight flask is released when the flask breaks against the side of the mountain.

The Virus is highly potent and is spread atmospherically and soon the whole world is infected starting with Siberia, Tokyo, London, Rome and New York as the film shows staggering death tolls for each city.

The action continues a few months later at an American Pathology Laboratory when Colonel Rankin of the US military asks one of the scientists that developed CX114 as to its properties. The scientist remarks to the Colonel that it is a terrifying doomsday weapon as its rate of reproduction the rate at which it multiples reaches astronomical proportions when above the tempertaure of about 5 degrees Celsius. The scientist accuses Colonel Rankin of making yet another Doomsday wepaon and screams, "How much is enough for you people! We already have enough nuclear weapons to turn the rubble into rubble!" Colonel Rankin storms out disgusted and has the scientist committed into a mental institution to prevent him from blowing the whistle to the US Senate Oversight Committee for Weapons Development and Research.

The action shifts to the Oval Office where the President, [played by the late Glen Ford] and with a Senator [played by Robert Vaughn] are watching the cataclysmic events across the world as the Virus Spreads. It has been called the "Italian flu" by the media but it is really CX114. Suddenly General Garland bursts into the Oval Office. He is the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and the head of the USA military. He demands that the President activate the ARS. An abbreviation for the 'Automatic Reaction System' of the US Strategic Nuclear Triad that will respond to any Soviet Nuclear threat against the West even if the entire hierarchy is dead. Remember that this film was made in 1980 and the Cold War was very much in full swing. Only about 800 people in the entire world survive as General Rankin activates the ARS which is set off by an earthquake in the capital Washington and not any Soviet attack, thus blasting the entire world with Nuclear Armaggedon as the Soviets respond with their nukes, finishing off what is left of the population that managed to survive the Virus. Overall a good action post-apocalyptic film with fine performances from Glen Ford and Robert Vaughan as well as Olivia Hussey, Chuck Connors and George Kennedy.

Governments love crises because when the people are fearful they are more willing to give up freedoms for promises that the government will take care of them. After 9/11, for example, Americans accepted the near-total destruction of their civil liberties in the PATRIOT Act’s hollow promises of security.

It is ironic to see the same Democrats who tried to impeach President Trump last month for abuse of power demanding that the Administration grab more power and authority in the name of fighting a virus that thus far has killed less than 100 Americans.

Declaring a pandemic emergency on Friday, President Trump now claims the power to quarantine individuals suspected of being infected by the virus and, as Politico writes, “stop and seize any plane, train or automobile to stymie the spread of contagious disease.” He can even call out the military to cordon off a US city or state.

State and local authoritarians love panic as well. The mayor of Champaign, Illinois, signed an executive order declaring the power to ban the sale of guns and alcohol and cut off gas, water, or electricity to any citizen. The governor of Ohio just essentially closed his entire state.

The chief fearmonger of the Trump Administration is without a doubt Anthony Fauci, head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at the National Institutes of Health. Fauci is all over the media, serving up outright falsehoods to stir up even more panic. He testified to Congress that the death rate for the coronavirus is ten times that of the seasonal flu, a claim without any scientific basis.

On Face the Nation, Fauci did his best to further damage an already tanking economy by stating, “Right now, personally, myself, I wouldn’t go to a restaurant.” He has pushed for closing the entire country down for 14 days.

Over what? A virus that has thus far killed just over 5,000 worldwide and less than 100 in the United States? By contrast, tuberculosis, an old disease not much discussed these days, killed nearly 1.6 million people in 2017. Where’s the panic over this?

If anything, what people like Fauci and the other fearmongers are demanding will likely make the disease worse. The martial law they dream about will leave people hunkered down inside their homes instead of going outdoors or to the beach where the sunshine and fresh air would help boost immunity. The panic produced by these fearmongers is likely helping spread the disease, as massive crowds rush into Walmart and Costco for that last roll of toilet paper.

The madness over the coronavirus is not limited to politicians and the medical community. The head of the neoconservative Atlantic Council wrote an editorial this week urging NATO to pass an Article 5 declaration of war against the COVID-19 virus! Are they going to send in tanks and drones to wipe out these microscopic enemies?

People should ask themselves whether this coronavirus “pandemic” could be a big hoax, with the actual danger of the disease massively exaggerated by those who seek to profit – financially or politically – from the ensuing panic.

That is not to say the disease is harmless. Without question people will die from coronavirus. Those in vulnerable categories should take precautions to limit their risk of exposure. But we have seen this movie before. Government over-hypes a threat as an excuse to grab more of our freedoms. When the “threat” is over, however, they never give us our freedoms back.

Often times estimates have to be made because data is just not yet available. These estimates usually involve obtaining information that is available and making estimates on what is not. We cannot tell the future but we can make educated guesses based on information available. This is what has been done with the coronavirus because this type of virus has apparently never been seen before.

I personally know of estimates made by actuaries (i.e. statisticians) who projected profits in a country that were way wrong. In this case the government changed the regulations related to the business in the country which resulted in tens of millions in losses in USD. I know of another case where actuaries predicted a deal to be profitable that eventually led to over $100 million in losses.
The point is that whenever estimates are made they are always wrong because no one can tell the future. Sometimes estimates end up close and sometimes they are not and sometimes they are way off.

The overall CFR varies by location and intensity of transmission (i.e. 5.8% in Wuhan vs. 0.7% in other areas in China).

Note that the number of deaths and confirmed cases (through testing) of the flu in the US are based on actual data. The number of individuals who contracted the flu is an estimate by experts. There is no way to know who had the flu in the US because many cases are not severe and people do not have a test done to confirm they had the flu. They believe their symptoms are minor and go on with their normal lives thinking they have a cold or something similar. Because of this, the CDC must estimate and they estimated 36 million people had the flu in this past flu season.

The rate of the number of individuals who died from the flu to the number of individuals who had the flu is therefore .1% (22,000 / 36 million). This is an estimate.

However, the rate of individuals who died from the flu to the number of individuals who were confirmed to have had the flu is around 10% (22,000/ 222,000). This is based on actual data similar to the rate for the coronavirus above.

5. Actual results for the coronavirus are lower than the flu.


Based on the above numbers, the actual fatality rates for those who were confirmed to have had the coronavirus are around 3.4%.

The actual rates for those who were confirmed to have had the flu are around 10%.

The actual data shows that the fatality rate for those who had the flu (10%) is 6% higher than for those with the coronavirus (3.8%).

6. Current estimates between the flu and the coronavirus are not comparing ‘apples to apples’.

The fatality rate that is commonly referred to in the media for the coronavirus is 3.4% from the WHO. This number is based on actual cases of those who are confirmed with the virus.

The flu fatality rate provided by the CDC includes an estimate of individuals who had the flu but were not confirmed while the fatality rate for the coronavirus does not include those who had the coronavirus but were not confirmed. This is why the flu fatality rate is .1% and the coronavirus fatality rate is 3.4%!

The two rates are like comparing apples to oranges. By doing so the coronavirus fatality rate is way overstated when compared to the flu and the media has created a worldwide crisis and panic by reporting this!

The coronavirus is not more fatal than the flu based on current data. It is much less fatal than the flu based on current data.

7. Those most at risk from the coronavirus are the elderly and sick (similar to the flu).

Similar to the flu, those most at risk of dying from the coronavirus are the elderly and the sick. The sick are also at a higher risk similar to the flu. Current data shows that if you have no pre-existing conditions, your fatality rate if you contract the coronavirus is .9% (and what proportion of these cases are the elderly).

In summary, the coronavirus is not as deadly as is being portrayed in the lying liberal media. In fact it is not as deadly as the flu. The elderly and the sick should be protected. Death rate is relative depending on the medical care you get.

The coronavirus is much more contagious than the flu.

A person with the flu will on average infect like 1.25 other people. So the flu slowly spreads until that rate drops below 1.0.

The coronavirus has an infection rate of about 2.6, and in crowded environments, up to numbers like 5 or 6.

This means that it spreads incredibly rapidly.

If the flu had a contagion rate of 3 or 4, it would also be a catastrophe, and the death rate due to flu would go way up. Because everyone would be getting it all at once, overloading the hospitals, and people who would have easily survived would then die from the flu.

The death rate is low right now because everyone is getting the medical care they need. But when hospitals are overloaded, the death rate from cornonavirus will go much higher. Up to 15% of people who get it need medical care, and up to 5% who get it need life saving medical care.

So just because the death rate is 0.1% or 0.2% today, doesn't mean it doesn't climb to 1% or 2% or higher if not properly managed.

Lets run the numbers. Because its so contagious, lets say 70% of Americans get it. Because of hospital overloading, lets say the death rate climbs to 0.5%. Thats over 1 million dead people. Mostly old white men btw.

It is also crucial in repairing cells and maintaining a strong immune system. Vitamin C (https://ods.od.nih.gov/factsheets/VitaminC-HealthProfessional/) is obtained from certain kinds of fruit (most obviously oranges) and some vegetables, such as broccoli. People who don’t get enough of it are prone to cancer, heart problems, brain degeneration and, in extreme cases, scurvy (https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-37320399).


However, maintaining Vitamin C in the blood isn’t solely a matter of diet. Genetics plays its part as well. (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3894570/) Some people can maintain a high level of Vitamin C without eating that much fruit at all. It depends on the form of haptoglobin which they carry: Hp 1-1, Hp 2-1, or Hp 2-2.


Haptoglobin (HAPTO-G) is a protein in the blood that binds to haemoglobin, this being the red protein in blood cells that carries oxygen and iron. Haptoglobin destroys excess iron, limits the amount of (potentially damaging) unbound iron, and reduces the amount of iron lost in the kidneys.


Hp 2-2 doesn’t bind as well as the other two. The result of this is excess iron in the blood. This excess iron oxidates—rusts—in response to oxygen, setting off a process that also causes the Vitamin C to oxidate. This reduces the efficacy of the Vitamin C, causing the person with this form of HAPTO-G to have a less effective immune system.


There are race differences in the distribution of Hp 2-2. Chinese people are by far the most likely to carry Hp 2-2: approximately 56%. [Serum vitamin C concentration is influenced by haptoglobin polymorphism and iron status in Chinese (https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0009898105005838), by Na Na et al., Clinica Chimica Acta, 2006]. People who carry Hp 2-2 are three times more likely to be Vitamin C deficient than people who carry the other two forms.


The implication (https://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=12316013), of course, is that one way of fighting this virus is to consume lots of Vitamin C-packed fruit. This is obvious advice, but it helps us, potentially, to understand why Covid-19 has been such a problem in China. For genetic reasons, the Chinese carry a lot of iron in their blood, but this makes them deficient in Vitamin C.


On this basis, we wouldn’t expect Covid-19 to be as damaging in Europe or the U.S. as it is in China.
We also shouldn’t be surprised that areas of the U.S. that are particularly hard hit by Covid-19, such as New Rochelle, NY, a square mile of which was recently quarantined, have a significant Asian population (4.2% in 2010 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Rochelle,_New_York#Demographics)). Studies from the United States reveal that 41% of Whites carry Hp 1, compared to 55% of Blacks, and 52% of Hispanics, but only 31% of Asians.
In the Middle East, only 28% of Muslim Iranians carry Hp 1. And only 30% of Israelis carry it.

The differences in the frequency of Hp 1 are small within Europe, but its frequency is among the lowest in Italy, where it is 36%. It is 40% in Scotland, the highest in Europe.


Now, of course, the key question is the population frequency of Hp 2-2, which is bad for vitamin C retention. Unfortunately, I cannot find a study that includes this information for lots of countries. I posted a video of this chink doctor Richard Cheng talking about the Chinese using vitamin c to prevent getting the virus and using intravenous vitamin c to cure it. That video was taken down but I've found another where he talks about taking oral C to prevent it. I've been taking large doses of it for the last five years and I still am. In this video he advises ten grams a day for adults and five for children. He recommends the powdered form and taking small doses through out the day in warm or cold water. Sounds like good advice to me.

Charette is among a growing tide of Americans who are going to retailers, pawnshops and online to purchase gun supplies and ammunition in the wake of COVID-19, which had killed more than 60 people in the U.S. as of Saturday afternoon.



As hysteria surrounding the illness drives some to stockpile groceries and toilet paper in case they're quarantined, it's also causing many to worry about a shortage of gun supplies, which is driving up demand and leading to long lines at suppliers.

The Israeli government has approved emergency measures for its security agencies to track the mobile-phone data of people with suspected coronavirus.


The new powers will be used to enforce quarantine and warn those who may have come into contact with infected people.

The temporary laws were passed during an overnight sitting of the cabinet, bypassing parliamentary approval.

The Association for Civil Rights in Israel called the move "a dangerous precedent and a slippery slope".

Such powers are usually reserved for counter-terrorism operations.

Details of how the "cyber-monitoring" will work were not disclosed but it is understood the location data collected through telecommunication companies by Shin Bet, the domestic security agency, will be shared with health officials.

Once an individual is highlighted as a possible coronavirus case, the health ministry will then be able to track whether or not they are adhering to quarantine rules.

It can also send a text message to people who may have come into contact with them before symptoms emerged.

The head of the justice system said the move would save lives, while Israel's prime minister said it struck a balance between public-health needs and civil rights.

Israel is still in the relatively early stages of the pandemic - and many ordinary Israelis are used to complying with measures they see as important for their security.

But this is a public health threat, not a security one.

The ultimate test of bolstering the powers of surveillance agencies will lie in their longer term effectiveness: whether they can slow the spread of the coronavirus.

Some are uneasy.

In an often tense and divided region, increasingly parts of the security infrastructure are doubling up as tools of public-health enforcement by both Israeli and Palestinian authorities.

The scale and duration of the health and economic crises may strain that situation.

Israel has confirmed more than 300 cases of the virus and imposed a series of other measures to stop the spread.

They include closing schools, shopping centres, restaurants and most places of leisure, as well as limiting gatherings to 10 people.

My position on this has not changed one iota since this whole thing started. I believe it is a bio weapon. I don't know if it was released on purpose but I would not doubt it. I think we are being lied to and we don't know what to believe. There is a high probability that the danger of this virus is being overstated and this serves the controllers purposes very well. They want to regiment society, they need a cover for the planned take-down of the economy.

I don't think getting nasty with anyone or belittling their belief about this is a decent way to behave. It is wise to be cautious because at this point we simply don't know shit.

Who was Glen Thomas and why have we never heard of him? He was only brought to my attention today when I came upon a link to an Italian website (http://appuntiitaliani.com/morto-esperto-in-virus-ebola-sullaereo-malaysian-airlines/) that explained that he was a leading consultant in Geneva who was an expert in AIDS and the Ebola virus, and he was on the Boeing 777 Malaysia Airlines that crashed in the Russian controlled border of Ukraine. On July 17th, he left Amsterdam to go to a conference in Melbourne, Australia, where there was apparently going to be an important announcement made.

Thomas was also the coordinator of the media and was involved in the investigations that were bringing to light the issue of trial operations of Ebola virus in the laboratory of biological weapons at the hospital in Kenema. According to appuntiitaliani:
