Publishing Company Under Fire for Putting Warning Label on Constitution
June 09, 2010

A small publishing company is under fire after putting warning labels on copies of the U.S. Constitution, Declaration of Independence and other historical documents.

Wilder Publications warns readers of its reprints of the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, Common Sense, the Articles of Confederation, and the Federalist Papers, among others, that “This book is a product of its time and does not reflect the same values as it would if it were written today.”

I think the disclaimer is a good idea, but they just got it wrong. What it needs to say is something along the lines of, “This book is a product of its time and does not reflect the way the US Government is run today.”

It was an awfully dumb thing to do. Those who are pro-constitution don't need to be told to council their kids, and those who are anti-constitution don't need to be told to council their kids, and those who don't care ... don't care.

One of the comments on the link said, "What's next; warning labels on the Bible?"

The US Constitution is like the word of God that needs no interpretation and should stand on its own merits and strength.
