I got inspired to get more educated about the role of iodine in the diet from listening to this Spingola podcast:

Hollingsworth suggests iodine (deficiency) is the root of an array of ailments, even including mood! Tied to the mysteries of the thyroid gland, I gather.

So I visited Hollingsworth's site Doctors are Dangerous (http://doctorsaredangerous.com/), where I find she posts this article, which I'll just post the opening paragraphs of here. I'm still reading through it myself, checking links etc. Hoping to solicit any knowledge & experience re iodine from the crew here,

Note: Article is from 8/06, and the initial talk of Japan you see is obviously pre-Fukushima... No one's suggesting that eating radioactive seaweed or anything else for iodine is kosher! :o

Iodine for Health (http://doctorsaredangerous.com/articles/iodineforhealth.htm)
by Donald W. Miller, Jr., MD
by Donald W. Miller, Jr., MD
There is growing evidence that Americans would have better health and a lower incidence of cancer and fibrocystic disease of the breast if they consumed more iodine. A decrease in iodine intake coupled with an increased consumption of competing halogens, fluoride and bromide, has created an epidemic of iodine deficiency in America. People in the U.S. consume an average 240 micrograms (µg) of iodine a day. In contrast, people in Japan consume more than 12 milligrams (mg) of iodine a day (12,000 µg), a 50-fold greater amount. They eat seaweed, which include brown algae (kelp), red algae (nori sheets, with sushi), and green algae (chlorella). Compared to terrestrial plants, which contain only trace amounts of iodine (0.001 mg/gm), these marine plants have high concentrations of this nutrient (0.5–8.0 mg/gm). When studied in 1964, Japanese seaweed consumption was found to be 4.5 grams (gm) a day and that eaten had a measured iodine concentration of 3.1 mg/gm of seaweed (= 13.8 mg of iodine). According to public health officials (http://optimox.com/pics/Iodine/IOD-12/IOD_12.htm), mainland Japanese now consume 14.5 gm of seaweed a day (= 45 mg of iodine, if its iodine content, not measured, remains unchanged). Researchers have determined that residents on the coast of Hokkaido eat a quantity of seaweed sufficient to provide a daily iodine intake of 200 mg a day. Saltwater fish and shellfish contain iodine, but one would have to eat 15–25 pounds of fish to get 12 mg of iodine.

Health comparisons between the two countries are disturbing.

believe it would be bromine, PatColo, because that one is also a member of the potent halogen family.

There are 5 halogen members.
Chlorine
Fluorine
Bromine
Iodine
Astatine

Each and everyone of these halogens can dissolve gold all by itself, which is quite a trick as tricks go, altho' the last one is used the least in science, at least to this point, unless one has call for a radioactive tracer....

PS...I've always wondered why--when all the other suffixes phonetically sound like Long E as in "---eeeeen" that Iodine ends up with a long "i" in the very same suffix spelling.

Oh well, one of those chemistry details they decided before I was a gleam in my Father's eeeee

Interesting, as you guys know english speakers often have a different pronounciation to American speakers.

For example: Al-you-min-e-um as opposed to alu-min-um

we ponounce i-o-dine as i-o-dean

Then again we prononce "menu" as "me an you" or "mean you". Fri-day is of course Fry-dee. oh well, most people speak some form of manglish other than the original form.

I very definitely recommend a simple method of iodine intake:

Buy non-povidone iodine, that is, the "real" iodine tincture. Right now CVS has a small bottle for about $5 (total ripoff but whatever).

At night time, take the applicator and paint your upper chest with it - not a lot, maybe 1 or 2 square inches, just enough to give it a thin yellow coating. Iodine can be absorbed through the skin.

I have had good results. Another way to get iodine is via spinach, I believe.

Fluoride and bromide (used in most flour, whereas before they did use iodine) compete with iodine to be absorbed. The effects of bromine on the body have NEVER been studied as far as I can tell. The CDC admits that bromine exposure is bad for you - http://emergency.cdc.gov/agent/bromine/basics/facts.asp but they don't tell you each bag of flour is brominated.

Nascent Iodine 2%

The mineral your body needs the most!

http://www.avatarproducts.com/images/health/MagIodine2.jpg

An essential nutrient for proper thyroid function, one that most people are deficient in. This form of iodine is monatomic (single atoms), resulting in a product that is very bio-available. Iodine is anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and helps to alkalinize our system. Every cell needs iodine, yet although it is naturally occurring, we live in an age that has made it hard to come by dietarily. Iodine's periodic-table cousins (bromine, fluorine and chlorine, classed as the halogens) are all too prevalent in our lives, impeding and displacing iodine in the body. Unfortunately, iodine as a supplement has been widely misunderstood in recent decades, and our notable lack of it (this has quadrupled in America in the last 20 years) may play a big role in many current health disorders.

Trial size 1/4-oz. bottle $12, 1/2-oz. bottle $25, 1-oz. bottle $40

Note: This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent disease. Ask your health-care provider for more information, or read Iodine: Why You Need It, Why You Can't Live Without It by David Brownstein, MD

Sofia noted in her show above that she's in SoCal and loves swimming in the ocean. Noticed how good & healthy she felt at the end of a summer with lots of ocean swimming. Learned that shes taking in iodine through her skin via the ocean water.

I hope she's not doing that now, post-Fuku. And Gulf & Atlantic dwellers had the BP/corexit "accident" toxifying their water! Anyways Sofia's very aware, and I'm sure she's taken her iodine orally as she describes, and has hung up the pacific ocean swimming? She didn't make it sound that way in her show- only talked about how much she loves ocean swimming!

I just dug up this thread again to send to a friend having health maladies.

On english and its schitzo vowels; the ultimate example my be the '...OUGH' combo. Two vowels followed by 2 consonants... should make a consistent sound, right? So which is it?

Seven Ways To Say "ough" (https://www.englishclub.com/ref/esl/Power_Of_Seven/Seven_Ways_To_Say_ough__2924.htm)

It's a pity that English is not phonetic! In some languages, you can look at a word and know immediately how to pronounce it. But in English you need to be a little more careful.

Take the letters "ough", for example. They occur in many words, but they do not always sound the same.

though (like o in go)

through (like oo in too)

cough (like off in offer)

rough (like uff in suffer)

plough (like ow in flower)

ought (like aw in saw)

borough (like a in above)

So how do you know the pronunciation of a word? Well, fortunately "ough" is an extreme example. English words are not always that difficult. But in general, when you learn a new word, you should also make sure you know its pronunciation. If you do not have a teacher or someone to say the word for you, you can look in a dictionary. All good dictionaries give the pronunciation for each word, often with special symbols. So it's a good idea to look at your dictionary carefully and learn the pronunciation symbols. After that, you'll always be able to find the pronunciation of any word, easily. Try it with the 7 "ough" words above.

Actually, the truth is that we can pronounce the combination "ough" in at least EIGHT (8) different ways! Listen:

"A rough-coated, dough-faced, thoughtful ploughman strode through the streets of
Scarborough; after falling into a slough, he coughed and hiccoughed."

THE MORNING SHOW

with
Patrick Timpone

Morley Robbins

The Magnesium Man

As a hospital executive for over 30 years, Morley Robbins became disenchanted with the “revolving door mentality” of these “illness maintenance” enterprises. He has dedicated the remainder of his career to “saving one starfish at a time” by coaching clients how to eat “real food” and thereby facilitating the process of natural healing. Morley is a “Health Futurist”, a certified Wellness Coach, a Certified Nutrition Educator, and a Functional Diagnostic Nutritionist. He works with Nexus Whole Health in the Chicago area. And he has a wicked sense of humor. He can be viewed on Youtube, reached online at morley@magnesiumman.com, and contacted by phone at 847.922.8061. He’s never met a question he didn’t like.

http://oneradionetwork.com/wp-content/uploads/Morley-Robbins.png (http://oneradionetwork.com/wp-content/uploads/Morley-Robbins.png)

In July 2011, Morley read Carolyn Dean’s wonderful book The Magnesium Miracle (http://amzn.com/034549458X). He realized that this was a key piece of the whole health puzzle that virtually no practitioners seemed to be aware of — even in the natural health world.

He was captivated by this mineral, and went on to read even more. Much more…

Twenty-one books and ~1,200 articles (and counting) on Magnesium and Magnesium deficiency, Morley has come to realize that Magnesium plays a role in all metabolic systems, and is therefore a contributing factor to nearly all major health issues.

Magnesium deficiency (http://gotmag.org/magnesium-deficiency-101) is the common thread for millions of Americans who are dealing with heart disease, diabetes, obesity, osteoporosis, cancer, general fatigue, and any chronic condition borne out of inflammation.

As Morley read and made connections between hundreds of scientific studies, what he found was shocking: Magnesium deficiency, or insufficiency, was at the center of all these common modern diseases due to its central role in activating 3,751 proteins, and thus thousands of enzyme systems (far more than the Internet figure of 300 enzyme pathways…).

It became increasingly easy to see why this family of Magnesium-related health problems would be so common in modern life. Over the past century, drinking water treatment and food processing has removed naturally-occurring Magnesium from our dietary environment. Meanwhile stressful lifestyles cause our bodies to burn through what little Magnesium we do have inside us. Furthermore, many prescription medications (http://www.jigsawhealth.com/resources/drug-muggers-suzy-cohen-magnesium) are known to cause Magnesium, and other mineral loss, as well.

Morley, in concert with his partner, “Dr. Liz” Erkenswick, DC, (who MAG-ically healed his shoulder…) began working with their clients on a program of natural healing, with particular emphasis on this “Magnesium deficiency issue.”

Show Highlights:

-The causes of magnesium loss and how to replenish it

-Morley explains how minerals run the body, not genes

-Magnesium: The teacher of the classroom. Morley explains how magnesium is the leader for all other nutrients; take the magnesium away and everything gets chaotic, much like when the teacher leaves the classroom

and more! Excellent interview!!!

THE MORNING SHOW
with

Patrick Timpone

Phil Thomas

Detoxified Iodine
Edgar Cayce is quite possibly America’s best known psychic/sensitive with literally dozens of books, articles, and even TV documentaries produced about him and the trance readings he gave during the first half of the last century. But if Mr. Cayce’s ideas and healing modalities were so insightful why is it that no one has been able to replicate them since his passing? One person dared to go beyond the forbidden zone to find out the surprising truth about the healing modalities unique to the Cayce perspective.

Phil Thomas is the author of the book, Beyond Theory: Edgar Cayce’s Natural Health, which provides experiential support for Edgar Cayce’s theories.

Phil was our guest several weeks back. He discussed the benefits of detoxified iodine and other natural alternatives to balance and heal with a focus on Multiple Sclerosis. Since that interview, Patrick, along with many members of our listening audience started using detoxified iodine, experiencing some pretty astounding effects. Phil joined us again today to further the discussion on atomic iodine.

Show Highlights:

-The difference between atomic detoxified iodine and raw iodine which is like Lugols

-How living near the ocean affects the thyroid

-The 2 parts of the body most sensitive to radiation

-How it was discovered that iodine needed to be electrified

-The difference in taking iodine orally and topically

-Is there any benefit to taking iodine for rheumatoid arthritis?

-What are the signs of overdosing on iodine?

-Phil recommends taking 2 days off between taking iodine for five; he explains why not becoming dependent on the product, or on anything for that matter, is important

-The 4 elements we need according to Edgar Cayce

-Your intuition is heightened when your body is in balance; getting to the point where we listen to ourselves and no one else is a nice goal

-A listener writes in:

After hearing Phil’s first interview and ordered six bottles and stopped Nascent which I had been on for several months. I felt nothing happen with Nascent. To date, I’ve done two rounds of the Detoxified Iodine:

First five day round:

First day……..I felt a strange of wellbeing/calmness which
I’ve felt daily since.
I’ve had extreme stress in my life off and on
since 2009, so this has been wonderful.

By day two……I felt physical strength in both wrists that were injured in a bad fall in early 2013 off two unmarked stairs on vacation. I landed at the bottom on both wrists which have been very weak with bones popping out of place off and on since.

Also day two……I was going up steep front entrance stairs to my new home and noticed I wasn’t reaching for the hand railing to help myself up. Strength in my legs!

Second five day round:

Drove out of my garage, remembered something I needed back in the house, back up eleven garage stairs, almost at the top I realized I had ran up them with ease and no thought of using the railing.

We like hearing good news like this!!

and more!

The Iodine Crisis: What You Don’t Know About Iodine Can Wreck Your Life (http://oneradionetwork.com/health/lynne-farrow-the-iodine-crisis-what-you-dont-know-about-iodine-can-wreck-your-life-may-12-2015/)

Thanks to environmental pollutants Iodine deficiency has become a worldwide epidemic. Everybody knows pollutants cause cancer. What they don’t know is that these pollutants cause a deficiency that can make us sick, fat and stupid. Iodized salt–supposedly a solution to iodine deficiency– is actually a nutritional scam which provides a false sense of security. In her book,The Iodine Crisis, Lynne explains how we became so deficient, then shows the time-tested solution to reversing many conditions. Lynne Farrow reveals how she and thousands of other patient-activists changed their lives by researching and using iodine. Frequently Asked Questions cover everything you need to know about iodine. The proof of iodine’s benefit is demonstrated by the dramatic case studies shared in this book.

Show Highlights:

-Lynne’s interest in iodine started with her ordeal with breast cancer; she tells us how a tip from Dr. Sherri Tenpenny changed her life

-In the 1800’s, iodine was used to treat everything; in the Egyptian times, seaweed was used to treat breast cancer

-Why was iodine stolen from us?

-You can deplete your iodine levels by sleeping on mattresses and wearing clothes with bromide fire retardants; a listener sends in an article about how firefighters in Minnesota are taking steps to have fire retardants outlawed (http://www.startribune.com/minnesota-ban-on-fire-retardants-would-be-toughest-in-nation/303357821/)

-Why you don’t want to get your iodine from seaweed

-The difference between iodine and iodide

-Will taking iodine orally mess with good gut bacteria?

-Shrinking all kinds of cysts with iodine

-Is it recommended to ever try iodine in an enema solution to kill some buggies down there?

-What is the reason that it is suggested to take selenium with iodine? Does iodine deplete selenium?

-Does the use of iodine deplete any other minerals?

-If one gets symptoms of bromine detox (say numbness in toes), has she ever heard of this going away after, possibly after using the salt detox protocol?

-What is the difference between detoxified iodine (Phil’s) and say Lugol’s solution?

-Is it better to take an iodine solution made with glycerine, or with alcohol?

-Would it be a good idea to mix iodine with sea salt or Himalayan salt and take it mixed in food that way?

-How do you know if you put iodine on your skin that it is really absorbing – could it just be evaporating into the air, and being wasted?

-What about dosage? How much is too much and how to determine how much you need

and more! This is an excellent show. Enjoy!

On that protocol you would be spending about AUD $50 per day for iodine. How long do you maintain the protocol for I wonder?

Ah ok Caps means capsules not a lid full. confusing language. iThroid comes in 12.5mg capsules. It comes at some amount of money which might be about USD $20 for 90 capsules.

My internet grinds to a halt when I try and search for this product so not sure on the price but $20 looks about right.

I finally get to this link. First one I found:
https://www.pureformulas.com/ithroid-90-capsules-by-rlc-labs-inc.html

Is it as good as taking the 2.5% Nascent liquid? $150 per 118ml.

But Patrick Timpone seems to have his own network? Mostly health related shows.

Sofia S. sells an iodine, bottom of http://www.avatarproducts.com/health-comfort.html

I should prolly mention, P. Timpone also sells an iodine product in his store: http://oneradionetwork.com/store/

and OT, but his latest guest is Dr. Jennifer Daniels; and they spent a good deal of the show talking TURPENTINE, which you'll notice is also in Timpone's store.

I posted the comment:

Does turpentine have anything in common with “Miracle Mineral Cure” (mmc)?? I think turpentine is alternatively called “mineral spirits”, right?

My 87 year old father has been using iodine for several years. He also filters his water and takes several other supplements. He eats a lot of nuts. too.

He is healthy, still does his own yard work with a push mower, takes no prescription drugs, and drives his doctors crazy, since most of them are 30+ years younger, loaded down with pharma drugs, and in poor health. Still they don't listen to him, having been steeped in the allopathic idea of symptom suppression.

I just watched a good video by Dr. Group at

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDRd40VK5PY

I just bought one bottle of his product

http://www.globalhealingcenter.com/nascent-iodine-detoxadine.html

for 29.95 one ounce free shipping

supposed to take 3 drops a day

don't know how long it will last

want to try till I use up one bottle and see if I have more energy or better mental clarity.

Not supposed to take this later in day cause may give you too much energy and interfere with sleep.

You get 180 day guarantee so I guess I can try it till bottle almost used up and send back bottle and get full refund but doubt I'll do that.

Dr. Group seems legit to me.

He also has worked in formulation of Alex Jones InfowarsLife products but do not know if he sitll is.

Anyway, it is a small investment and worth a try since like about 75% of people are said to be iodine deficient.

Heard it does not taste very good but you need to take it in liquid form. Now if I just can remember to take it each morning.

THE MORNING SHOW
with Patrick Timpone Morley Robbins The Magnesium Man
As a hospital executive for over 30 years, Morley Robbins became disenchanted with the “revolving door mentality” of these “illness maintenance” enterprises.
