Hmm....I have, now shipped to me, a $10 random date Indian head pre-33 eagle for less than the cost of modern bullion. The coin is said to be in VF condition, from a very well reviewed seller.

A 1/2 oz gold eagle is selling for maybe $15 dollars more.

Still, I'm excited because I've wanted one of these coins for quite some time, but never wanted to pay the high premium for them. It seems like the premiums on pre-33 gold may be going back down.

Any thoughts?

I prefer pre-33 gold any day of the week to modern bullion. Each coin has a different story behind it.

I prefer the most metal for my FRN's.

Agreed but there's something about the old gold money that makes the additional premium a bit easier to swallow. Double eagles, eagles, half eagles, quarter eagles.....all very cool items and you know they're original :)

I just ordered four of them, paid just over 1 bitcoin for them. What's funny is this, my first bitcoins I bought for $40 each, so I like to think that I just spent a bitcoin I paid $40 for to get these four $10 gold eagles, so really if you think about it I just purchased four $10 gold eagles for face value!!

That's an even better deal than I got. You can't get a 1/2 oz bullion coin for that price. I've never seen Pre-33 gold at bullion prices before, I wonder if the market just got flooded with $10 eagles. There has to be a reason for this.

Yeah, I've been keeping my eye on pre-33 prices for years, ever since I started collecting, and I don't remember a time before this when such coins were actually less than modern bullion!
