Not too long at all, and because of the impending realization of hypovolemic shock coupled with tachycardia, it wouldn't be long before your entire vascular system would shut down, I don't think there'd be any "welding" of any vascularity, it'd be the opposite in trauma like this..ie..torn, wide open wounds, I'd also speculate that because he had such devasting nerve damage, he probably wasn't in as much pain as one would imagine
