Cheap but excellent seats . . . nosebleeds, but we could see everything. Plus, we were in one of those rows that had only two seats in them, so nobody is crossing over us every two minutes to acquire another beer or release another beer. I loved those seats! Well, there were the 3 obnoxious guys in the row in front of us who kept screaming to the cheerleaders(?) and mascot in the level below us, but . . . there's always someone annoying like that nearby at any sporting event. It was distracting, but I got over it occasionally.
Penguins smeared the Panthers, but we were there to see the Penguins anyway. Since my very small sense of hockey team loyalty lies with the Bruins, I feel the need to cheer for the team of the person who brought me to the game. No really good fights. I haven't seen any good hockey fights in years. I think they changed the rules or something a few years back.
We left in the middle of the 3rd period because it was 4 to 1. I had a good time, but I don't think it was a very good game. To me, a good game would be less one-sided. I would have liked to see a shoot out.

What does a diamond ring on a gal's middle finger mean? I met two asian ladies, and they both had diamond rings on their middle fingers, on their left hands. Does that mean they are married, engaged, or an asian cultural thing?
solid
26th January 2012, 05:10 PM
I'm curious also. Two women in my yoga teacher training claim they're married but wear the rings on their middle finger right hand.
And what happened to our resident dentist?
Right hand huh? Were they diamond rings? This gal had the ring, diamond, on her left hand. Maybe I should just call this gal up and ask if she's single. I don't want to take a chance on getting mixed up with a married gal. She could lie about it.

For those of you who haven't been into a JCPenney lately, it's worth checking out. They restructured all their pricing 3/1, and wow! There are some smokin' deals inside, especially on winter items (which look brand new, not all picked over, etc.). I like to shop there for the great size options (petite, big & tall, etc).
Basically, they did away w/ the weekly 'sales' and have straight lower prices on almost everything.

Not sure if it's all true. Either way, my stomach has been turning since I read that.

More than likely the mackeral was just processed in Vietnam. I remember watching a thing on the TV a few years ago about fish farming in asia. They do get away with alot of shit. Pretty much all our seafood is either from asia or processed there. I don't touch it. For some reason though I will eat the odd bit of fish from south america though.... Probably not any better.

Well, he survived the night (surprisingly), and I can't let a young cat like that die in agony, so he's at the vet right now. I'll figure out how to pay for it.
Something told me I would likely be judged harshly for letting an animal suffer and die like that if it was at ALL in my power to keep it from happening.
Besides, I would miss him, and so would Mrs. BT, and she doesn't even particularly like cats.
It's a common problem with fixed males, and the blockage must be removed. I'm not aware of any natural methods to do this. Now I need to make whatever changes are necessary to keep it from happening to his brothers.

I could make a batch for a fraction of the cost and send it to you, but I don't have the uva ursi (main ingredient) which is FANTASTIC for UTI's.
Probably some stones in there, that poor kitty.
My cats all live until they're in their twenties except one was only 15. Another cat before her was 23 he was the best cat in the world.
Check your local health food store/ herb shop --see if they have a shelf for pet health.....
you might be surprised that they might have a formula almost identical to that one.

Very unnatural, the ones we have been getting here are close to me and are related to oil drilling/fracking.
The big company's are not admitting it because they would have to pay for the damages, but I am very sure it is.

Time for EQ insurance! Make sure there's no clause releasing them from fracking.... Here? The ones in the news are about 45-60 miles south of me and b/s about taking out insurance for something other than nature causes.
What will happen and it will take time/years? Is the damage will be repaired very quietly by the company's that caused it They just had another small quake this week or last.
The energy company are (almost) untouchable here in this state. Everyone just loves the money that oil/gas/coal brings into the coffers of all levels of gov here from local to the top of the state. Believe me there are a bunch of 3rd partys down there now with seismographs and stuff monitoring what is going on.
One of the things that happens in a oil/gas field as product is withdrawn and pressure down hold is reduced is the land on top can sink and shift. And that is with existing production. With fracking old and new wells that just adds another layer to the sometimes mess that it all causes.
This is a not so much response to a nothing thread!! ;D

I've got a very uneasy feeling out here on the coast. I wonder if an earthquake is going to happen.
The wildlife is acting very strange. All the birds are gone. Not one seagull, hawk, etc in the skies. No ducks or herons. Nothing, it's quiet and silent. Earlier, a very large bat ray was swimming at the surface, with two little ones in tow. She had a wingspan of maybe 4 feet, the little ones maybe 2 feet. Quite beautiful animals, very smooth and graceful...she was breaching the surface splashing with her wings, and give me quite the show. Later, I saw several small fish doing acrobatics on the surface, wild leaps and jumps out of the water.

Sometimes I wonder if Romney had his VP chosen just on (or to promote) name confusion. I'll be scanning headlines, and see Paul Ryan. I first think Ron Paul, then I tnink, no; Rand Paul, & then it clicks just WHO they're talking about.
I suspect I'm not alone....
DMac
15th August 2012, 08:44 AM
It's really as if everyone is rallying around Barry O in one form or another.
Ron Paul is in, he's out...but maybe not all the way - deliberate derailing from my perspective.
Rand endorsed Romney. This put the nail in RP's coffin.
PTB in the GOP really must think the people are retarded. Hence Paul Ryan to VP Mitt confounding the public with names similar to that 'crazy guy' Paul - it's such an obvious ploy and slap in the face.
A weak GOP presidential candidate helps the party overall, in their twisted little world. The Gran Ole Perverts are going to win both houses of Congress. This leads to a divided (lol) executive and legislative, but, the GOP will likely not have enough for filibuster power. This leaves the gov in a bad position of status quo over the approaching 4 years. Watch for more executive orders passed due to the party divide.
I think the dollar problems happen 2017 +/- 3 years. So come 2016, the big inflation will probably be getting started and I think it will take a year or more to go off the rails (and eventually the big war).
This gives the Republi***ts opportunity to install their version of 'right wing' candidate for the fireworks.
This is all assuming no other doom hits first.

Wait, OK, I almost forgot . . . even weirder . . . part of my birthday present is a picture frame that says "World's Greatest Grandpa". I kid you not. So, the package arrived FedEx. Yep. She sent it 5 weeks after my birthday, but she had to get it here overnight. Stranger still . . . I am going to see her next week. I am left befuddled.
Wait, OK, I almost forgot . . . even weirder . . . part of my birthday present is a picture frame that says "World's Greatest Grandpa". I kid you not. I guess she wants me to put a picture of my dad in it and have it in my house. It still doesn't make any sense. He's not my grandpa, and he doesn't have any grandchildren in my house. Hahaha. Well, it's funny at least. I am getting a good chuckle out of it.
Ah, family. They do the darndest things. >[]*
Um, she's trying to hurriedly tell you that she's pregnant, but wanted to tell u in a different way.
Happy belated birthday, sistah !!!! Auntie Kos , sounds sweet !!

You might call her (if you haven't already) & check...perhaps she got labels mixed up w/ another package, or maybe she's having issues of some sort?
I called to thank her. I am not completely classless. :p
So, the frame is for me to put a picture of my dad in (from our trip to Curacao), and keep in my house. She said that he said something about no "grandpa" stuff being around [implied my house?]. I really can't see my dad saying something like that, much less even thinking anything like that, but I am not going to argue with her. I barely have any pictures of family in my house. Maybe one small one of my sisters and I, but that's it. Plus, my dad doesn't even visit my house. It's too far, and too hot! We meet half-way for lunch each week, though. Yay!
Anyway . . . I know that her finances are really tight (which makes the FedEx thing perplexing). My guess is that she just wanted to give me something. She probably had the frame lying around for my dad and it seemed like a good idea. Now I feel bad for laughing. :(

My best friend and I got to see a super bright shooting star tonight at 11:49 PM eastern. I can't imagine the odds . . . we were out on the covered patio for hours, and then I went to take the dogs outside. The moon was so beautiful and bright, I told her to come out and look at it. After about 5-10 seconds of moon gazing, there it was, a bright, vivid shooting star - directly in front of the (assuming) full moon. We both did and said the same thing, which was basically just a gasp, and we both pointed at it. If I had taken the dogs out 1 minute before or after, we wouldn't have seen it.
Very, very cool!

Indeed. I've been up in there before. I can't wait for tomorrow. Gotta check the tides though. It's a blast to explore there, plus with a kayak, nature is all around you. The harbor seals follow you around, play games. Pelicans dive bombing right next to you.

A shark attacked a kayaker earlier this year...
"It's kind of what sharks do, they just cruise around all day biting stuff; I wouldn't necessarily call that an an attack, that's more like shark behavior," John Souza said.

Yup, and didn't get attacked by a shark! :)
The sea lions though, made me a bit nervous. They came right up to me, all 400 lbs of them. They look very big when you sit low in the water in a kayak. They could have easily flipped me over.
Had a great time though. Must have paddled 10 miles or so. I feel it, it's a good workout. The harbor seals were fun, they swim right up to you and look at you. You could reach out and pet them. They seem like curious friendly dogs. Saw a lot of nature. Kayaking is a blast.

I've paddled around here quite a bit, and in inland Florida it's big gators, sometimes as long as the boat lunging off the shore, diving right under the kayak. Good times! :) Big sharks seem friskier though.

I went underneath the house today, into the crawlspace, where I discovered a whole bunch of useless copper pipe. It was cut off at the end exiting the crawlspace, and pinched off at the end where it previously attached to a furnace. A furnace? Seriously? No one ever had central A/C in this house, but there are two sub-floor furnaces . . . and a fireplace! Hmmmm. Maybe global warming does exist, and it was really cold in South Florida in 1960.
So, I took out one section of the copper pipe (the section I was absolutely certain was not being utilized for anything). I probably took about 5lbs of copper pipe and fittings. Yippie! Treasure! If this was a city-fed gas line that goes to the street: a) it will be a bitch to dig up. and b) it could buy a few oz of silver. :)
Anyway, it was fun getting dirty and learning about a part of my house that I just never explored at all. There were awesome spooky spider webs down there that were so Halloweeny they looked fake.

Some of the worse hit towns (that are still missing a lot of power) postponed trick-or-treating until the weekend, but my town has near full power back and is mostly cleaned up. I could see maybe a decrease, but one kid?? Heh, I know where he lives on my street. I should go over to his house and give him like 20 candy bars and tell him he won the Halloween perseverance prize! (I'm sure his parents would love that...)

Yay for you !! But please everyone should be careful with copper and your eyes, Its usually the only time I get on the guys about wearing safety goggles.
Copper dust or fumes can affect you when breathed in.
Eye contact with particles of Copper Metal can cause a severe reaction that can lead to blindness.
Exposure to dust or fumes can irritate the eyes, nose and throat.
Copper fumes may cause "metal fume fever". This is a flu-like illness with symptoms of metallic taste, fever and chills, aches, chest tightness and cough.
Copper may cause an allergic skin rash.

I would be more concerned with the galvanized material. Yep!
Used to make tug boat handrails and off shore platform rails, and we used galvanized pipe. Cutting and welding that stuff will get to you a good dose of galvanic poisoning and make you sicker than a dog. Seems that drinking milk would help, another metal to avoid is welding stainless steel, the smell/taste reminded me of butter. And that also is not good for ones health.

I spent last night at a FEMA camp.
Turns out one of our remote work sites is listed as a FEMA camp. When I work at this site, I drive my camper and stay the night because it's so quiet. My coworker told me this place was listed as a FEMA camp, and I just confirmed it online. So, the whole time I've been crashing here, I've been sleeping at a FEMA camp.
Talked to a guy at a local army surplus store today as well. People are becoming aware. He told me he's seen military at this location creeping around with rifles and gilli suits.
Anyway, perhaps I'm the only one on this forum who can claim they have spent the night at a FEMA camp. Not sure I like the idea of staying the night here any more.

Lesbian sea lions?
The local wildlife seems to have gone crazy here. The seagulls are landing on deck each morning waking up, making a big racket. A blackbird attacked my head, twice, on separate days. I had to chase a big bull sea lion away with my boat hook.
And just now up on deck I saw two sea lions in the water rolling around having fun. Except they are two female sea lions.

What brought that on? Drugs? Overworked?
I don't know what brought it on. I woke up at around 3 am to use the head, then crawled back in bed. As soon as I laid down, I felt something crawl under the sheets next to me. My first though was cool another lucid dream, then I rolled out of the bed. Next I'm floating in the air. I go into the main area of the boat. I know I'm having an out of body experience at this point. I look at the ceiling and think I should be able to go through it. But, do I want to. Do I want to see what's out there. I decide to try, and I go through the ceiling. I see the plywood, fiberglass, etc as my eyes go through it. I go about 50 feet up into the air and look down at the boat and around the marina. It's silent and dark. I think about where I should go next, think about visiting a gal on another boat, but decide that would be too weird. Then I wake up, wide awake.
I've been doing a lot of reading on lucid dreams, out of body experiences. Robert Monroe's book creeps me out, because he goes into detail and describes exactly what I'm experiencing.
As crazy as it sounds, I never really feared death, now I just know with out a doubt 100% certain, we are more than just our bodies. From a spiritual sense, I've never felt any more peace or understanding than I do now.
I need to get this off my chest. There's nobody to really talk to about it.

I like my floating in the air dreams, never went through solids though...
In that book, Robert Monroe tries to prove that there's more going on than dreams. They did an experiment with him. They watched him sleep, and in another room they put some numbers for him to read. The idea being, he would leave his body as he claims, and look at the numbers. The whole time while being monitored. While being watched as he sleep, the husband of an assistant came into the room for a few minutes to see his wife, then left. During that time, Monroe was sleeping in another room. After waking up, Monroe said he had an out of body experience and was able to describe the woman's husband perfectly...even though he was sleeping the whole time.
This is a very deep subject and probably deserves it's own thread.

Why speaketh ye of 7th trump? [the central scrutinizer]
He looks like a cheap
sort of flying saucer about five feet across with a snout-like megaphone apparatus in
the front with two big eyes mounted like Appletons with miniature motorized frowning
chrome eyebrows over them. Along the side of his disc-like body are several sets of
stupid looking headers and exhaust hoses which apparently propel him and punctuate
his dialogue with horrible smelling smoke rings. In the middle of his head we can see
an airport wind sock and constantly twirling anemometer. The bottom of him has a landing
light and three spoked wheels.
7th trump speaks:
This is the CENTRAL SCRUTINIZER...it is my responsibility to enforce all the laws
that haven't been passed yet. It is also my responsibility to alert each and every one of
you to the potential consequences of various ordinary everyday activities you might be
performing which could eventually lead to The Death Penalty (or affect your parents'
credit rating). Our criminal institutions are full of little creeps like you who do wrong things...

Cheers my friend. For the past maybe 9 months or so, every now and then, I wake up in the morning and things are moved around. Where they shouldn't be. Weird stuff. The strangest was my watch and the date wheel.
It had me thinking something was wrong with me, either I was going crazy, sleepwalking, I don't know.
This morning I saw, with my own eyes, something move on it's own.
Now, I don't expect anyone to believe this, and I really don't care. This thread is about nothing anyway. But, man what huge weight has just been lifted off my shoulders.

My panels are ready, 12/24 120/240 watt. My controllers will run 24v with a dip switch... I am buying a 24v Samlex inverter to replace the 12v inverter. Then I will rearrange my battery cables to make them 24v.

Woke up this morning to the best night's sleep I've had in almost 2 weeks. Poured a cup of coffee, and stuck my head out the hatch of the boat to see the day...and find myself face to face with the biggest bull sea lion I think I've ever seen. 5 feet away on the dock. He is standing proud with his chest puffed out, head pointing to the sky. He doesn't move and just looks at me. I look at him. We both don't move but are just looking at each other. He finally opens his mouth for a big yawn, and then grunts. I tip my coffee cup and say good morning, and go back down below.

I've been getting back into guitar after many moons away, so I've been playing a lot, and Mrs. BT has enjoyed watching me get back in the groove with Metallica and other stuff I used to enjoy playing. I asked her if she was paying close attention, because I was planning on getting my acoustic guitar back from my daughter (who never plays it) and I thought we might be able to play together if she felt like learning some stuff. Her response?

Almost got crushed at work today. My capt said over the radio to get out of there, I listened, and got my head and upper body out of the way with maybe a second or two to spare. Then, doing the same task later, my coworker had the same thing happen. I told him to get out of the way. Thank God he listened, Thank God I listened...again a second or two and we'd both be dead.

Yea Hitch spill the beans, spin us a tale.
We were running anchors, 20,000 pound ones off the bow of the tugboat. Biggest anchors I've ever seen, over 10 feet long. The job I'm on, has a barge about 300 feet long, the size of a football field. At each corner, one of those anchors is stretched out on wire rope to hold the barge in place.
Wind and current. Well, we had to move that barge. We picked the anchor off the bottom with the tugboat, all 20,000 pounds. That's something to see. Then we drove that anchor to the barge to secure it. Once you pick up one anchor, the barge is moving on it's own.
What almost crushed me, was I had to lean over the bow of the tugboat and tie a stopper knot on the wire, so it wouldn't get away from us. The Capt can control the boat, but not the barge! As I was leaning over the bow, the barge closed in on me.
I was working with one of the best Captain's we have. He told me to get out of there at the last second, as I couldn't see shit leaning over trying to tie the knot.
The barge slammed the boat, right where I was working. Right where my head was, trying to tie the knot.

the sea is treacherous for sure. Scarey tale there hitch.
There is a sad tale in the news this morning of a sailor being crushed during a supply delivery to an off shore oil rig somewhere off the Western Australia coast.
A man has been killed in an accident aboard a supply vessel off the West Australian coast.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau is investigating the death on the Skandi Pacific, 166km north-west of Karartha on the North West Shelf yesterday morning.
The fatal accident happened while the vessel attempted to shelter from bad weather.
“Skandi Pacific stopped working cargo with the drilling platform Atwood Osprey due to heavy weather,” ATSB said.
“While attempting to shelter from the weather and secure cargo, a wave came over the back deck of the vessel and shifted cargo.
“A crew member was attempting to secure cargo when he was crushed between a moving mini-container and a cargo skip.”

I'm sort of out of it. I worked 37 hours in a row. I got on the clock Monday at 2 pm, worked through the night, all day Tuesday, and finally got off at 3 am this morning. During this time I got maybe 2 quick naps in, which I really didn't sleep, because the environment I was trying to sleep in was pure hell. Engines going, loud noises, 90 degree heat, no fresh air, everything moving around me.
On top of that, for 37 hours of work, only 12 hours of that is overtime, which is time and half pay.
Somehow modern day labor laws don't seem to apply where I work.
On the bright side, I guess it's good training for SHTF. At least I should be used to the brutality of a harsh environment, lack of sleep, and an unstable schedule.
If you have a comfortable office job, I envy you though. I can't imagine just working 8 hours in an air conditioned office anymore.

Also on the bright side, you are fortunate enough to be employed in these times.
I am grateful, I'm thankful I have a job, and more importantly...a job I actually really enjoy.
I know a lot of folks are not that fortunate.
It did take me a couple of days to feel like my normal self again. Normal people don't work 37 hours in a row. I guess that's my beef. Overtime is supposed to discourage employers from working people like that, by hitting them in the pocketbook. We don't get overtime pay until after 12 hours of work, and it resets at midnight. So, if we start our job at noon, come midnight, it's a new day. We can work 24 hours in a row without overtime. There's no incentive to crew change us out. Just work us and hope the job gets done safely and done well.
