Nah, Im busy enough as it is with the holsters. I wouldnt mind having some other stuff on the table though. ;)

okay, just trying to throw some money making ideas your way :)

I think there's money to be made on these vests, for shooters, or hunters. How do you carry several AR/Ak mags and gear?

Look at some of them you can order out of China, some can be ordered with as little as 10 minimum order.
$8 - $15 each. Don't you think you could put 5 or 10 bucks on top?

Take a look through a few pages and tell me which one you would like if you were in the market?

I'll browse through for sure. I like to keep everything on the table "made in america" as much as I can. Since right now its just hte stuff I make, its all made in america, 100%.

We acutaly have a board member here who is close to someone that makes some outstanding tactical gear for the surplus community. I'd really like to get there stuff at some of our shows, but they're having trouble keeping up with their current demand, much less anything for me.

Most of what I look for is stuff related to CCW and self defense pistol use. I'd like to get some SD ammo for the table, like Speer, Hornady, etc. Paracord stuff is always good, etc.

My big issue is time. I make the holsters (in part) there AT the show, so I stay fairly busy. Theres time when I dont get out of my chair for hours on end because its one holster after another and I barley get face time with customers and rely on my show companions to occupy visitors ;)

If you can buy it locally for less, cash in hand, that is the best idea.

I recently spent $150 for 38 +P, 200 rounds, shipped. I couldn't find it locally.

Buy locally if you can. Otherwise, that price seems fair, imo.

I live in Europe and it's produced in Europe so that might explain the difference... the mania hasn't come here yet, but if a lot of this stuff gets imported to the US it might become a shortage here as well. Our transactions get registered here for the police to see if they should want to, but it's only written down on a piece of paper and given to the authorities if anything criminal happens, but i agree it's always a point to pay with cash not to have it registered digitally.

Think I'm gonna try to max the quota I've been given by big brother to protect my self from a price hike.

What i am more concerned about is the .22lr because the European stuff is mostly competition grade and costs a whole lot more than the American stuff.

Norweger, care to explain how the quota works where you are? I feel this is the next step here, perhaps after assault bans. Regulating how much ammo we can own and purchase.

i just called my walmart. the woman who answered ask what dept. i needed. when i said sporting goods she said do i want ammo? i said yes and she said that she had a list she could read off of what ammo they did not have. no .22, .45, .223, 5.56. i ask her if she gets many calls. she said sunday mornings were unbelieveable. they are inundated with calls everyday but sundays were crazy!

15000 rounds of ammunition if at least 5000 of them are .22lr is what we can have at our home. There's really no way for them to control what we have in our homes until they pay us a visit though.

We have to show a plastic card we all get from the police when we purchase a firearm to prove that we have guns in said caliber when buying ammunition.. the seller then writes it down in his book. I'm suspecting that this and whether or not we are on the range will be digitally monitored in the future.

5kg of gunpowder is also a limit.

Local stores are drying up

45 and 9mm are poof be gone and this is with a two box restriction

Rifle racks are sparse and every single glock in the store was gone even used 2nd and 3rd gen

Never seen anything even close to like it

They did have a few bricks of 22lr limit one box i think it was 40 bucks

I grabbed 3 boxes of 7.62x39 and was greatful

This really might be the new norm

I stopped in to a small local gun show yesterday.
What these guys were trying to get was laughable.
AK ammo, everyone was $1.00 a round
One guy had .22 mini-mags...he wanted $25 for a box of 100
Guys were selling silver rounds for $38 and $40
I told them it was nice of them to bring their collection to show everyone
No one has ammo cans anywhere around here

I picked up a few boxes of .22 lr yesterday, $10 per box of 100. Federal ammo. They had a fair amount of ammo on the shelves but I couldn't see all the prices. At the army supply store they had plenty of ammo cans. $17 per can. That price seemed a bit high so I passed on buying any.

Thursday I stopped into two sporting goods stores in a small Eastern Sierra town. One place had nothing. The other place had a several boxes of 100rnd CCI Mini Mag .22lr, but he was only selling them with a rifle purchase. I did get some 9mm, but one box per customer or party. He wouldn't sell to my girlfriend. He had .223 too, but it was exspensive and I don't have anything chambered in .223

Big 5 in the city I work in was dry

Big 5 in the ghetto had four boxes of Rem .22 short for $4 for 50rnd, two boxes Win 7.62X54r soft point, and two boxes of the same in steel cased FMJ. Left with everything.

Chain gun shop in the same ghetto had .45 and 30-06. Nothing else, except two boxes of .12 gauge goose load, which I picked up

I pretty much went all in after Black Blade's "Buy it cheap and stack it deep" thread, but I like the hunt.

Thanks Norweger, this is probably what they will try and do here. 15,000 is a decent amount of ammo, and there's no way to know how much folks have at home..however, with the card, do they regulate how much you can buy per year? If a person is part of a shooting club, or target practices a lot, they would be showing their card and buying ammo quite frequently. I'd imagine that might make them a target for a home visit.

The 22LR shortage is nuts!

As soon as they hit the shelves, they are gone.

Resellers have sprouted up everywhere. There are hundreds of new GunBroker accounts selling them now.

Not sure why its so hot...more 22's owned maybe?

I was visiting a few nights ago with a fellow who's family manufacture ammunition. They have about 75 employees so they are a small company. He said they arn't trying to gear up to produce more but are producing all they can and keep the quality high. He said when there was the run on ammo before they hired new people and trained them but when supply caught up with demand they had to lay them off so they arn't going to do that again. It costs to much to train new emplyees and they want to keep the quality of there ammo at the same level it is now and new employees have an effect on that.

Today, instead of my usual stops, I hit some pawn shops and struck gold. I picked up four 500rnd boxes of Winchester Wildcat .22lr for $49. a box. And ten boxes of 50rnd Magtech 9mm for $19.99. I called my brother who picked up all the .223 and some 9mm. They also had 7.62X39 but I have plenty of that, but I will be back on payday if it's still there. The boxes of Wildcat are pretty beat up on the outside and look like they're from the 80's, but I was more than happy to clean out their stock.

I went by the coin shop too and picked up ten silver rounds. They said they're having alot of trouble getting silver and pilfered someone's order to get me my ten rounds, and limited me to those ten.

I think it took two weeks for the order to arrive, customer service is extremely nice. Here's a form email I received after about 10 days.....

First and foremost we wish to thank you for being a loyal Armory customer. Most of you are already aware of longer than normal shipment dates due to the high volume of orders we are experiencing. This is being compounded by our warehouse crew contracting the flu that has been rampant across the country and reducing our processing/shipping capacity.

We are at 4-6 times over normal capacity and our staff has been working overtime to fill your orders and despite our efforts, please expect 10-15 days after placing your order for it to ship. As our standard policy, your credit card has not been charged, and will not be charged until we are ready to ship your product. You will recieve an email with a tracking number when this occurs.

Struck out at three different place this week. I think the shop owners are getting testy. When I called my favorite store (which was about the last shop to run out around here) and asked them if they're expecting any in, the guy answered testily: "Of course we are. We're a gun shop."

The local Walmart, which used to tell customers that you have to be lucky enough to be there when a shipment arrives, now simply says they're not expecting deliveries any more. I'm not sure if he was just saying that because he was tired of answering the question.

Had some success with the local gun guy. They seemed to have plenty of ammo, but they had some restrictions in place. Only 3 boxes of ammo per day, and they had 22 lr, one brick per person. So I bought 1 brick of 22lr and 2 boxes of 410 shot. The 22lr was $30 for 325 rounds. The 2 boxes of 410 were $14 each.

We also stopped by the army supply store and I bought 2 ammo cans for $17 each, based on midnight ramblers suggestion. These cans are also in the best shape I've seen of any ammo can, look brand new.

In my opinion the prices will go down. There is no reason why they should remain at the current level. If you study the market you will see that it fluctuates a lot. The manufacturers produce even more ammunition now than what they did before sandy hooknose. Do people shoot more now that before? No, i would imagine less.

So the way i see it a lot of people have hoarded more than what they need and probably with credit cards and sooner or later they will have to dump at least parts of it on the market - causing the price to go down.

That .22lr example posted above here is just greedy in a nonsensical way.

Not all that impressed by this gun. It is impressive for an air gun but doesn't really compare to what a rifle is capable of. It has similar power to a 9mm handgun but on that max setting would only shoot 4 shots before needing a recharge. It is heavy even for a rifle and is pretty weak. Although it might be able to take down a hog or deer I think it is even a bit under powered for that. It would be good for varmints at modest ranges. In that hog video it didn't even seem that quiet.

If it is reliable and long lasting you might be able to make a case for cost of operation but otherwise it seems kind of pointless.

Well going to head to the state capital this weekend to the gun show at cal expo and check out what they have. Not really looking to get much in the way of ammo but not going to pass up anything worth the money either. Hell I don't even like going to the gun shows very much due to how many assholes I see sweeping the crowd with unloaded firearms. Trying to find reloading supplies is like plucking hens teeth though. Can't find large pistol primes anywhere. pretty much are going to have to use magnum primers if your going to load anything. This stuff is drying up quick all over the country, Iv asked a few shops in the area and they can't keep xd's,glocks...ect, or any "black" rifles. I suspect these are not new gun owners reloading rather people who have shot for some time and are seeing the ammo going through the roof if they can even find it.

So with these record guns sales with new and long time gun owners buying ammo and reloading components while both ammo and supplies to reload disappearing in equal measure where is this leading? I mean there has to be a reason all these people are buying guns right? There has to be a reason all the ammo is going so fast and people are paying crazy sums for .22lr and other popular calibers right? Is a consensus building in the nation that perhaps our rights are under the gun(cheep pun) and my be threatened? Do people honestly cry out for common sense gun control as THE OLD MEDIA reports daily? Then those same people buy in record numbers?

Do the political actors in our towns, cities, counties and states though out this country who claim they represent us push these laws in our legislative bodies on The People's behalf or even in The Peoples best interest ?

Doesn't look like it from what we are seeing today. They make ordinary people criminals, one by one day by day. Where does this leave us? One nation full of criminals who have not harmed a single person only that theycould harm. Our beloved leaders must protect the innocent and the defenseless from the innocent, the armed, and the persecuted .What the fuck, somethings is wrong when living the way you did 30 years ago makes you a criminal today. Hello I mean really? Going to label innocent people criminal by the sure virtue of "because we say so?".

Yeh....No! Go eat a bag of dicks you pieces of shit.

What are we suppose to do? These guys are not public servants they are instead representing the public falsely. They do not act in the public's best interest's instead their actions benefits very few. Those few are not the majority.
They say we are doing something wrong. We say we are not. Who is wrong the people or the servant? Who serves who?

The actors on the hill act as though the laws are not for them, but for us. The courts do not hold up the law of the land. This is not something we can change easily, we have voted for different colors and they all mix to shit brown. We can petition for a redress of grievances, but if that goes unanswered then what? You know their wrong but you have no recourse other then to comply. Is this what we get end of story,There is nothing wrong Sit at home and drink tea and slave on? There is nothing we can dothat's the consensus right?. Bullshit, TPTB are scared. They have practically taken over the the world and got America by the throat, but the nation is starting to wake up. And the last thing they want to do is Jolt that beast awake before they have full Control. This growing trend of gun and ammo purchases and vocal citizens must be very un settling to these turds. People angry at them and armed. So whats the real consensus in this country not whats piped out of the sides of these snakes mouths.

Which they will eventually unless civil war starts in the next few months. Some of this buying is just people wanting to get their hands on ammo because it is hard to find. Same sort of psychology of the people buying houses at the end of a boom, they are afraid they will miss out.

I have to wonder if there is some government restriction on manufacturers making this happen. I could imagine a few weeks of limited supplies but then the manufacturers would kick in extra production to make hay while the sun is shining. But for 2 months? That just seems a bit much.

Gun shops face massive ammunition shortage

By Aaron Smith @CNNMoney March 12, 2013: 6:01 AM ET

Even .22-caliber bullets are in short supply, as gun lovers stock up on ammo.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney)
Gun enthusiasts are buying firearms with unparalleled zeal. As a result, ammunition is in short supply nationwide.
"We can't get any inventory within a 100-mile radius," said Mark Campbell, owner of Mid America Arms in St. Louis. He's having a hard time keeping ammo in stock. "It started right around the election, as soon as President Obama mentioned gun control. But right after the school shooting in [Newtown] Connecticut, that's when it went crazy."

Even the big ammunition retailers are feeling the pinch. Wal-Mart (WMT, Fortune 500) has been rationing its ammo since January, to three boxes per customer per day. And when a gun retailer like Cabela's (CAB) gets two or three shrink-wrapped pallets of 5.56 mm or .223 ammunition for AR-15 assault rifles, they're "cleaned off like locusts, within a couple of hours," according to Brian Rafn, a research director at Morgan Dempsey Capital Management in Milwaukee who follows ammo manufacturers.

"You're talking about a massive civilian arsenal build up," he added.

As demand has climbed, so have prices, from $12 for a box of 50 rounds for assault rifles to $25 a box, said Rafn.

Ammunition manufacturers declined to comment on whether they've ramped up production, but Rafn expects that they have.

"They're probably [working] three shifts, seven days a week plus overtime," Rafn says of manufacturers like Alliant Techsystems (ATK, Fortune 500), Olin (OLN), Winchester, Hornady Manufacturing and Remington. "They're probably scrambling to build new plants like they haven't done in eons."

Anecdotal evidence certainly suggests they're busy.

The answering machine at Hornady Manufacturing in Grand Island, Neb., has an outgoing message that says "call volume, order volume and demand for product has increased dramatically," delaying bullet shipments to distributors.

Caleb Ogilvie, a concealed-carry instructor who works at Cabot Gun & Ammo in Cabot, Ark., has heard from various employees at the nearby Remington ammunition plant in Lonoke that "they're running full swing up there, running 24-7."

But Ogilvie said that it's tough to keep ammo on the shelves, despite his shop's proximity to the plant, a mere 15 miles away -- especially the once-ubiquitous .22-caliber.

".22 ammo, you cannot find anywhere right now," he said. "It's popular. It's cheap. People want to go out and target shoot. People just want to go out and plink."

One gunshop worker was too busy with customers to even speak to CNNMoney. The man who answered the phone at Shootin' Shed Gun Shop in West Winfield, N.Y., said, "Sir, you're talking to the only [employee] in here and there's nine people standing in front of me."

The recent sales activity comes even as one survey suggests a broader decline in gun ownership. A survey by researchers at the University of Chicago released last week found that 34% of adults owned guns last year, down from 49% in 1973.

But respondents weren't asked how many guns they owned -- just whether they owned any. And much of the recent activity is not reflected in that survey: According to FBI data, seven of the 10 biggest weeks ever for background checks for guns have occurred in 2013.

Industry experts and insiders say the congressional debate over gun control proposals, including background checks and a new assault weapons ban, is helping fuel sales now.

As gun lovers buy up weapons that may be banned or restricted, shares of companies like Sturm Ruger (RGR) and Smith & Wesson (SWHC) which make assault rifles (but not ammunition) have skyrocketed.

And if you haven't bought an assault rifle yet ... forget about it.

"If you were going to order an AR-15, you're going to be waiting two years," said Ogilvie.

I think this is inevitable, but the question is how long it will take. Supply & Demand is a fundamental relationship, and price is where supply meets demand. At what price does demand fall off? Once it does, where will the new equilibrium be? When will this equilibrium be reached?

Interesting article posted by EE. A couple of questionable comments:

"They're probably [working] three shifts, seven days a week plus overtime," Rafn says of manufacturers like Alliant Techsystems (ATK, Fortune 500), Olin (OLN), Winchester, Hornady Manufacturing and Remington. "They're probably scrambling to build new plants like they haven't done in eons."

Doubtful. Manufacturers don't scramble to build new facilities based on a short term surge in demand. They raise price.

One gunshop worker was too busy with customers to even speak to CNNMoney. The man who answered the phone at Shootin' Shed Gun Shop in West Winfield, N.Y., said, "Sir, you're talking to the only [employee] in here and there's nine people standing in front of me."

You have to figure the mentality and number of people involved. Casual gun owners who only bought a box or two of ammo each time they went to shoot and might only have a couple hundred various rounds sitting around the house all of a sudden started stocking up and the worse the shortages get the more urgency they feel to get a hold of some ammo.

Guys that buy a box of 50 a month all of a sudden realize that they should have 500, 1000, 2000 rounds of that caliber and they are buying everything up. The ammunition manufacturers are being asked to produce a couple years worth of production in a few months. Just isn't going to happen. Plus on top of that they have to fill the massive orders from the government.

The only good thing about this situation is a lot of folks who never thought they would need to stock up before are doing so.

IMO, the money powers are 'allowing' *just enough* of the popular centerfire rifle rounds to be imported to prevent people from coming to the all too obvious conclusion.

I don't know how the ammunition manufacturers facilities are set up but I would imagine that they don't all produce every caliber non-stop. Probably do runs of one caliber then switch when they have enough. Maybe they have several different assembly lines but obviously not one for every caliber.

Perhaps to meet demand for 9mm. .40, .223 and .308 they have been focusing their production on these, which also happen to be what the government has ordered. Remember that most of those orders were to lock in price and were not fully delivered up front. So they have gotten behind on .22

Also pretty much every gun owner has a .22 so if there is a shortage you are going to have panic buying from everyone. Not just the preppers and tactical crowd.

The CCI/Speer facility in Idaho is dedicated strictly to .22LR production.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvK9QlQtrKI

This video states CCI makes 4 million rounds/day of .22LR ammo. If only five days a week of production, that's 352 million rounds since 12/14, so WTF is it?? ???

midnight rambler
13th March 2013, 10:37 AM
I just spoke with someone at ATK (Speer, CCI) and she advised me that they're running 12 shifts (24/7 production) and it's all getting soaked up - "People are waiting in line at stores to grab it as soon as it hits the shelves." I asked her that since the video showing production at the Lewiston facility was stated to be 4 million rounds/day and they're running 24/7 then the monthly production rate would be at least 120 million rounds/month, so is that all being soaked up immediately? She answered in the affirmative. I also asked her if 'the internet rumor' was true that us.gov was soaking up production and she replied, "That's not true." She also advised me that the word at ATK is it's going to remain this way into the foreseeable future as long as demand remains as high as it is. Same applies for Speer GD pistol ammo.

She also advised me to keep an eye on the MidwayUSA website for ATK ammo, as MidwayUSA has orders on the books going back a while.

So a word to the wise - do not buy ammo from the 'ammo re-seller assholes' who have popped up all over to take advantage of gun owners 'desperate' for ammo.

With all the manufacturers running at full capacity, I was wondering why the price of copper, lead, and nickel have all been down over the last 30 days, while warehouse inventory has been up. You'd think the manufacturers would be competing for base metal resources. Perhaps they simply represent a small fraction of the overall demand for those metals. I would also guess that ammo manufacturing has a very high recycling rate of all the spent cartridges collected at ranges. (I wonder how much money the ranges make by recycling them.) Though with people hoarding rather than shooting, the ratio of manufacturing to recycling must be way up lately.

This might be the wrong thread to ask this question, but what do you folks think about saving 22lr for barter purposes?

I've read, 22lr 'could' be used as money, and the recent shortage....even when times are stable, really jumped out. Seems 22lr could really hold it's weight against silver. Up until recently , 90% junk silver to me screamed barter, emergency savings. I'm wondering if the 22lr shortage is really giving us a big warning. When SHTF, 22lr will be worth more than silver.

Merc dimes or 22lr? For barter? I'm grabbing all the 22lr I can find, personally. Heck, if I need to make chicken chow mein with squirrel meat, folks will think it's chicken, I can hunt with that.

Gandermountain here in these parts has over 3000 7.62x39 rounds with everyone walking right on past it. Down the street at Dunhams sports its the same story........all kinds of 7.63x39.
However, there were over 15 people looking at hand guns.
last week there was 9mm, 40 and 45acp, but its doubled in price from a month ago....today at GM theres was only box's of 40mm.

And shit loads of HMR.17 every where which I'm thinking of getting a rifle or an upper chambered in that cal.
Anyone heard any good news about the HMR.17 AR upper.
They want over 600.00 for an HMR.17 upper only which is ungodly of a price, but the power and availability of the HMR.17 over a .22lr might be well worth the price.

i have an hmr and it is a good round. that being said, keep in mind that ALL HMR ON THE MARKET is made by cci. the only reason you see it in stores is because so few people own the caliber. if it gets popular, finding ammo for it would be like if all .22LR on the planet was made by blazer. it'll eventually be impossible to find. if you do buy an hmr, buy massive amounts of ammo for it asap. it is currently the caliber i am stockpiling, as i eventually expect it to completely disappear forever. pricey as hell too.

Local law enforcement face ammo shortage as gun owners, DHS stock up
Published March 23, 2013

Local law enforcement agencies across the country are facing an ammo shortage, as gun owners concerned about new laws at the federal and state level stock up on firearms and bullets.

At the same time, the Department of Homeland Security has said it wants to buy more than 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition in the next four or five years -- which could put further strain on the supply.

The shortage, coupled with an increase in prices, comes as many gun owners head to the stores in anticipation of new gun control laws. States like Colorado and New York have already approved such legislation, while Democrats move toward bringing a bill to the Senate floor. At the moment, the congressional bill does not include an assault-weapons ban, but a ban is expected to be floated as an amendment.

Still, what one official described as "panic-buying" set in, as lawmakers rallied to draft new legislation in the wake of a series of tragic mass shootings last year, from Aurora, Colo., to Oak Creek, Wis., to Newtown, Conn.

In Tennessee's Hamilton County, the sheriff's department says its officers will be given fewer bullets when they train at the range.

"The concern over firearms availability and ammunition availability and potentials of gun control certainly has impacted the availability of ammunition purchased locally," training coordinator Jody Mays said, according to WDEF.

Earlier this year, Rollingwood Police Chief Dayne Pryor told MyFoxAustin.com that "panic-buying" is contributing to a situation where officers trying to order new firearms are being forced to wait. He said the city, which is outside Austin, has been told to expect wait times to purchase AR-15s and ammunition.

"We have adequate supplies right now, but we're limited to how often we can go to the firing range to train because we want to be conservative right now," he said.

Similarly, the Jenks Police Department in Oklahoma has faced rising ammo and assault weapons costs.

Police Chief Cameron Arthur said the department is still waiting on an order from October, according to KJRH.

Meanwhile, according to CNSNews.com, Rep. Timothy Huelskamp, R-Kan., said he still hasn't heard back from the Department of Homeland Security on why it's buying 1.6 billion rounds.

The Homeland Security Department, though, has said it needs the bullets for law enforcement agents in training and on duty.

Published federal notices about the ammo buy have agitated conspiracy theorists since the fall. The government's explanation is much less sinister.

The Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, Ga., and others like it run by DHS use up to 15 million rounds a year, mostly on shooting ranges and in training exercises.

More than 90 federal agencies and 70,000 agents and officers used the department's training center last year.

The rest of the 1.6 billion rounds of ammunition would be purchased by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the federal government's second largest criminal investigative agency.

The Homeland Security ammo buy is not the first time the government's bullets purchases have sparked concerns on the Internet. The same thing happened last year when the Social Security Administration posted a notice that it was buying 174,000 hollow point bullets.

I've read good reviews of this Colibri ammo. It's a primer only cartridge, should be very quiet. I took a gamble on this purchase, but I've shot simunitions, and been shot with simunitions, primer only paint cartridges. They pack a punch. They are also quiet. If this colibri ammo is as quiet as simunitions, I will be very satisfied. I think it should be.

I find squirrel to be hard targets for any 22lr/.223 when they are behind cover in a urban hunting situation, like say a tree branch or a car door. The .308 may prove king for putting vermin in the stu pot.....though a quite little 22lr may prove invaluable in picking up a larger caliber that may be just lying around.

Was at the shop this morning. The place was packed, like it seems to be every time I'm there. The only thing they had for me to buy was some grips. Of course no 9 mm in sight. The owner was working the express cash register (he was one of a half dozen guys working behind the counter). I asked him about availability of Beretta mags, and he said they've had none "since the election."

Then I asked about 9 mm. He said the next shipment won't be in until next week, and they're much smaller than they used to be. (This is a high-volume gun shop.) He said he has to hold back some 9 mm for gun purchasers; he'll sell them 100 rounds. I told him I understood. When I asked him if they update their web site when ammo comes in, he said no, cuz people would overrun the place.

So as I'm paying for the grips, he said, "You're a regular customer here, right?" I said yes, and that I had bought my Beretta here. So he said to hang on for a second. He went into the back room, and came back with two boxes of 9 mm which he was careful not to let others see, and slipped them into my bag. He charged me the regular price; no mark-up at all.

I told him I was very appreciative. :D

Local gun guy had 22lr cci mini mags. 100 rounds, $9. Nice to see a fair price. 2 box limit. He also had 45-70 gov't for $43 a box. No 223 or 7.62. No 9mm. Had 38 +P for $20 a box of 50. Plenty of 12 guage too but didn't see the prices. The 2 box limit was for all ammo, so I chose the CCI because I have seen any of it, anywhere, until today.

I must say, I am really impressed with the gun community. This shop could have sold that CCI for 3 times the price, and it would still sell to happy customers, just to get it.

I don't own a 9 mil, but I'll pick up some if you need, and ship it too you. I haven't seen much around these parts locally, but I will keep my eyes open. I will buy any 9mm I come across.

No problem. I didn't realize it was illegal.

I was just thinking if I came across a box of 9mm, it would be tempting to buy it, but I haven't seen any, anywhere. However, I don't own a 9mm and don't plan on getting one. Ethically I think it's wrong to buy ammo when you don't own the gun to shoot it. It could be depriving someone of that box who may really need it.

I hear you, TT. I just ordered some expensive ammo for my 45-70. Garrett ammo, and Buffalo Bore.

Now, these guys did not raise their price. Even in our current ammo crunch, their prices stayed the same. I just pulled the plug because of that...

They didn't price gouge.

The local gun guy I went to yesterday, 100 rounds of CCI for $9. Fair price. They limit it to 2 boxes per customer. He could sell that for 3 times that price...but why isn't he?

Do you folks see what is going on? The gun community...has some ethics. The gun folks, are for the people. They could sell all their 22lr at huge prices in an instant.

But they don't. They have box limits. They want us all to have our ammo, that we need.

I just think that's amazing. I have huge hope for our future because of this.

I won't buy any ammo I don't have a gun for. I think that's unethical. I want to do my part. Let the guy who needs it have a chance at getting it. My two bits. We all come together here. Let's show these fed assholes we won't sink to their level.

Even though there is some internet gouging going on, I agree with Hitcher that the gun folks generally stand by each other in face-to-face interactions. I'll repeat this quick story that I posted a couple of months ago:

"So on my way home I stopped at WalMart, where I've never bought ammo before. [...] While I was there, another guy came and bought their last three 250-count boxes of .40. As he was at the register, another guy came by and said, "dang, I came here for .40." I suggested he ask the customer at the register (who I had chatted with, and was a good guy) if he would be willing to give up one of his boxes. He was. I told him he did a good deed, and he smiled."

I have another story: I was at Bass Pro a few weeks ago where the 9 mm shelf was empty. I heard a guy behind me bragging to his buddies: "Yeah, I just cleaned them out of their last 10 boxes of 9 mm!" So I turned around, and said jokingly, "Thanks a lot, pal." He didn't know what to say, so I told him I was just kidding, and that I don't blame him a bit. About 5 minutes later, I was browsing over in the mag section, and the same guy comes up to me and says, "You're the guy looking for the 9 mm, right?" When I said yes, he reached out and handed me a couple of boxes from his stash. A perfect stranger.

Already thought about it - reloading doesn't do you any good at all if you can't get components (i.e. primers, projectiles, powder, brass). Think handloaders are going to share their (limited) hoard of components with someone they just met? Think again.

I found $28 for a box of 45-70 HSM ammo online. That is down, I've never found 45-70 at that low of a price online. 45-70 is usually around $35-$40 a box. Thinking about ordering some, but need to research if HSM ammo is decent. It's a higher velocity round too.

Yikes!!! "Cheap" is relative these days. I have the tins of 5.45 coming in at $132/tin (1080 rounds) with membership, coupon codes and SPG VISA discount. Most vendors that do have it want $200+/tin now. The tins of 7.62x54R (440 rounds) at about $157 shipped (SPG) same deal. I think that the prices will be even higher from here on out though. These are all backorders being shipped now. Think I am done buying bulk ammo unless I see a screaming deal as I am well stocked anyway. Saw this day coming for a long time so I prepped and my investment has nearly tripled to quadrupled in the process. My last wood crates of Yugo M67 and M75 I got last year from Wideners and the prices now on GB are absolutely insane! Who knows, the prices may return to "normal" in a few years. Back to adding more physical bullion and long term nonperishable food storage now.

the 45-70 is tapered (a little harder to machine the chamber, in some machine shops.)

as far as i can tell, the 50-90 is a straight wall bullet - no taper.

First time I read that article just now, and it creeped me out a bit. 3rd paragraph down it starts "After the Sandy Hook tests of 1879...."

Sandy Hook tests, 45-70 GOVERNMENT. Yikes.

FWI, modern 45-70 loads have improved and after studying the ballistics, I figure with practice, a good scope and the right load, I should be able to reach out to 200 yards for elk hunting. Hopefully. Modern ammo and modern guns can shoot a bullet with over 3000 ft-lbs of energy. A 420 grain solid brass bullet smacking a large animal at 1500 fps second is a big brick to toss at a window. The ballistics (and hunting stories I've read recently) make me even a more proud 45-70 guide gun owner.
